The Vanished Podcast

We first brought you Emily Noble's story on September 21, 2020. Emily disappeared after spending the evening of May 24, 2020, celebrating her birthday with her husband. They stopped at several restaurants in a popular part of Westerville, Ohio. They then made their way home for the evening. Emily's husband claimed that they went to bed, and during the night, he got up to use the restroom and then went back to sleep in a guest room, not wanting to disturb Emily. When he awoke later that morning, Emily was gone, and her wallet, phone, keys, and car were still at the residence. Emily's disappearance captivated the local community, and rumors swirled from day one. Days before we were due to air Emily's story in 2020, human remains were located not far from her condo. The day after we aired Emily's episode, the Westerville Police Department held a press conference confirming the identification of Emily's remains. On June 17, 2021, her husband Matt was arrested and charged with her murder. In this special two-part update on Emily Noble, we will explore what happened after the original episode aired and what we know today about what happened to Emily.

In August of 2022, Matheau Moore was found not guilty.

In August of 1972, 14-year-old Marialice Clark disappeared from Omaha, Nebraska. She had left to visit a friend who lived in the neighborhood but never returned. There isn't much known about the disappearance of Marialice Clark, but if you search for information online, you will find her name tied to the controversial conviction of two men who were affiliated with the Black Panther Party and an anti-fascist political group. When Marialice was just 12-years-old, she was named in a federal ATF affidavit as having reportedly seen a large collection of foreign-made firearms and explosives, which she described in intricate detail. How would a young pre-teen know so much about weapons and explosives and to call the ATF? After Marialice disappeared, her name was almost entirely erased from existence for the next 50 years. Fifteen months ago, we set out to try to find any trace of Marialce that we could possibly uncover.

21-year-old Jason Landry disappeared on December 13, 2020. Jason had just completed his first semester at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He was making the nearly 3-hour drive to his family's home in Missouri City, Texas, for the holidays. It's believed that Jason left around 10:55 PM that night. Around 12:30 AM, a volunteer firefighter discovered Jason's car crashed on a dark, desolate road just outside of Luling, Texas. Luling was along Jason's route home. Jason's parents were jolted awake that night when the phone rang. An officer from the Texas Highway Patrol was on the other line, informing them that they had found their son's car crashed, but there was no sign of Jason at the scene. That was the beginning of this nightmare for the Landry family, and more than ten months later, they are still searching for answers.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Jason Landry, please call the Caldwell County Sheriff's Office at 512-398-6777 extension 4516.

Today you will hear the rest of the tale that spans from a possibly faked death, to an airplane in Mississippi, and an investigation that found its way to Florida and back to Michigan. Eric's disappearance has never truly been dormant because every time investigators think they've found an answer, another turn of events changes everything.

In March of 2011, 38-year-old Eric Franks disappeared from Saginaw, Michigan. The circumstances of Eric's disappearance were strange, and suspicious figures surrounded the case from the beginning. A unique series of events seemed to protect the suspicious figures. Despite a thorough investigation and execution of many search warrants, law enforcement struggled to come up with anything tangible. It was a frustrating case that went cold over the years. Then, in September of 2020, Eric's car was found after being hidden away in a garage for many years. With this significant development, Eric's cold case suddenly came screaming back to life.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Eric Franks you are asked to call the Michigan State Police at 989-495-5555.

We first brought you Ebby's story back in March of 2017. Ebby's mom, Laurie, told us about her frustrating journey to have her daughter's case investigated properly. At the end of our original episode, there was a new team looking into her disappearance. Laurie was hopeful. A little over a year later, there would be a major break in the case when detective Tommy Hudson decided to search areas of the park where Ebby's car had been found. Areas that her family had been told were searched previously. That was when they discovered Ebby's remains just 60 feet from where her car had been found. In this update, Laurie is joining us again to discuss how Ebby was found and where her case stands today.

If you have any information about the disappearance and murder of Ebby Steppach, please call the Little Rock Police Department at (501) 404-3128.

9-year-old Bob Boyes disappeared from Port Republic, Maryland, on December 26, 1968, the day after Christmas. Bob and his brothers had gone to a neighbors' home to show off their new toys. Bob's brothers left the friends' home, but Bob stayed behind. Bob later left to walk home, accompanied by his pet deer, Pete. But according to Bob's parents, he never made it home, and his pet deer later returned without Bob. Nearly 53 years have passed since that chilly winter day that Bob disappeared, but many of his remaining family members still hope that someone will crack this cold case.

If you have any information about the disappearance of Bob Boyes, please contact the Maryland State Police at (410) 535-1400.

Last fall, we brought you the story of 69-year-old Carolyn Riggins. In July of 2020, after a successful night at her favorite bingo hall just a few miles from her Fort Worth, Texas home, Carolyn had disappeared. Just weeks before we originally aired her story, Carolyn’s remains were found inside the backseat of her car in a deeply wooded, remote part of far north Texas. This area was a place so rural, that it is almost completely inaccessible without detailed knowledge of the area. The discovery of Carolyn’s vehicle and body under such mysterious and unexplained circumstances troubled Carolyn’s family, especially with some of the rumors that swirled around the community from the time she disappeared and even after she was found. This week, we will explore some of the stranger aspects that have developed since we first aired Carolyn’s story nearly a year ago.
