In this talk Robert Bauval will review the Star-Religion found in the Pyramid Texts, the world's oldest corpus of religious writings. How and why were pyramids and temples aligned to stars? And how and why did the ancient Egyptians aspire to a rebirth in the sky among the constellations? The cosmology (or cosmogony) of the ancient Egyptians, particularly that of the Old Kingdom Pyramid Builders, contains many elements which, strangely enough, seem to match the scientific cosmology of today. Robert Bauval will review the powerful 'star religion' of ancient Egypt and show how it reflects real events that were observed in the sky. He will also review some of the cutting edge cosmological ideas of modern science and discuss them in relations to the metaphysics of ancient Egypt. Also in his lecture Bauval will review the possible source of ancient Egyptian cosmology at the prehistoric megalithic site of Nabta Playa in the Sahara, dubbed the 'Stonehenge of the Sahara' and the oldest known astronomical complex in the world."
