October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and this year it's a cause that hits closer to home for Jennie's family, than ever before. This week the girls sit down with Jennie's mother, Dr. Kathy Royal, Ed.D.: Mom, Grandmother, Gifted Education Teacher, and recent Breast Cancer Survivor.
Once hesitant to even share her cancer diagnosis with close friends and family, Kathy is now on a mission to share her story, and encourage women of every age to stay up to date on routine medical care. Breast Cancer effects 1 in 8 women, so yearly mammograms are CRUCIAL for early detection. Often we put off regular healthcare visits because we are "too busy" or "feel fine". When in reality, when we don't take care of ourselves, or let things go for too long, we put ourselves and our families at risk. Talk to your doctor about your family history, and remind the women you know who are of age, to schedule their yearly mammograms! Please visit The American Cancer Society Website (https://www.cancer.org/) for information and resources.
