  • WWI #57: Our near future is going to be really weird & I share embarrassing medical stories

I love waxing philosophical about what our lives will be like in the near (very near) future. "How near" you ask? Ray Kurzweil believes we'll have microscopic robots in our brains in 13 years. Too far fetched? He's got an 86% accuracy rate in predicting future technology and the number goes higher if you consider sometimes he is just a few years off.

Topics discussed: Genetically modified babies; Robot love; Would art made by a computer still be art without the human emotion put into it? A a bunch of other tangents. Plus, I tell a few funny stories about terrible awkward moments with patients.

  • WWI #56: Coincidences; Psychic Detectives; Ouija Boards and more!

John Taylor, creator of Twisted Podcast and true crime author joins Savanna and me to wax philisophical about the nature of coincidences; the validity of so called psychic detectives; his experience with Mike and Maleah using the Ouija Board and how tough is the job for the Secret Service under the current administration. We also look into the prospect of future law enforcement with predicitve policing (think Minority Report without the people floating in pools).

On this second of Futurism Friday, we spend thi first 2/3rds of show show ignoring the topic of futurism and instead talk about my battle with death! (spoiler - I won). Then Savanna discusses the mainstreaming of AI in 2017 with IBM's Watson acting as personal accountant.

  • WWI #53 - FUTURISM FRIDAY!!!

This is the first ever WWI Futurism Friday, a series of short episodes where we will discuss mind blowing advancements in science, medicine, life extension, artificial intelligence and much more. This week we discuss Peter Diamandis' theory that humans will evolve rapidly (decades v millenniums) into new species with technology aided augmentation of our physiology. In other words, we will bypass classical evolution and force adaptations and become something other than human? Plus, if we upload the sum of our experiences into a machine, is it still you or just a copy?
We also discuss the future of medicine and how it will soon be easy to closely monitor subtle changes in our body's physiology and be able to more accurately predict disease processes. We may not be able to cure being old (yet) but we will be able to live disease free!
I hope you enjoy the new series. Stay tuned for next weeks WWI episode on Near Death Experiences. I will be interviewing a man who allegedly left his body in the ICU while suffering a massive infection that was shutting his organs down and pushing him close to death.

  • WWI #52: The 2017 Predictions Show

This show was originally meant to be live of FB and we ran into yet another snag. Stay tuned for future video episodes which will most likely be on demand via YouTube.
This was a fun show! We made predicitions for 2017 in technology, science and celebrity deaths. Savanna royally screws up the advert at the start of the show (which I had to leave in) and Mike royally screws up a celebrity prediction - so, all in all it was probably the best show to date!
Questions? Comments. Perogatives! Please visit the site www.waitwhatif.com where you'll find bios, show archives, blogs, listener discounts to Onnit and much more!
Thank you SO much for listening and making 2016 so successful. I'm planning on adding much much more content for 2017 and looking forward to your imput!
    Happy New Year ;)

  • WWI #51 Neuro Linguistic Programming - Science or Snake Oil?

This is an episode recorded earlier this summer and put on hold to be released during the busy holiday season! It's a long episode but that is because we had such a deep interesting discussion, I couldn't decide what to cut out and what to keep in - so I kept pretty much everything!
Phil Sampson joins us to discuss how Neuro Linguistic Programming changed his life. What is NLP? There is much debate as to whether it represents a true scientific exploration of cognition or whether it is a new age cult of cognitive behavioral therapy. Either way, Phil is an interesting guy with an interesting take on life and fitness and we go way back to our days of Brizilian Jui Jitsui training so it was an absolute pleasure to have him on.

  • WWI #50: LIVE from Revival 1869; Consciousness; Death; And the deconstruction of John’s Freudian dream

This episode was recorded live from Mike and Maleah's bar Revival 1869 with Savanna Steele and show regular John Taylor (twistedpodcast.com/truecrimewriting.com). The bar room is in the midst of reconstruction in downtown Clayton, NC. It was discovered that the building was once the home of an old funeral parlor and perhaps the site of a murder in the previous century. Ever the skeptic, I figured we could record live from the location in the hopes that we would receive messages from the other side. No such luck. Although, after we packed up and left John, Mike and Maleah stayed and tried to make contact via Ouija board. We'll discuss their discoveries in a future episode.
We had a fun conversation about the possible origin of human consciousness and where it goes after we die. We also delve into the world of dreams and debate whether or not they are nonsensical drivel or the visual representation of cosmic messaging from other dimensions. Also, discussed: beenieweenies; denser; and nerve stimulation.

  • WWI #49: Fan of a Movie Franchise? The Story of Alec Peters, the Man Who Raised Over $1 Mil to Make His Own Star Trek Movie!

Carlos Pedraza is a journalist, writer and independent film maker uses his investigative skills coupled with his love of Star Trek to bring us the story of Axanar. Axanar is the brain child of a man named Alec Peters. According to Carlos's website axamonitor.com:

'Peters is a serial entrepreneur and winner of Ernst & Young’s 2004 Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law, and is a former collegiate volleyball coach. In 2013, Peters portrayed Garth of Izar in the fan series Star Trek: New Voyages and was to reprise the role in the planned feature-length Axanar, which he co-wrote and was set to produce, though he decided to re-cast the role with a younger, to-be-named actor. Peters wrote the original story for Axanar 25 years ago and decided to produce it as a feature film after his experience with Star Trek: New Voyages."

Unfortunately for Peters, the success of his crowdfunding campaign and the growing visibility of his production brought obvious scrutiny from Paramount/CBS officials who filed suit. This set the stage for an ongoing legal battle between both parties.
Fan films alone are an interesting topic. Carlos calls his time working on various Star Trek fan films projects as his "film school." Actors, writers, directors spend hours of their time and money creating mini-storylines or off-shoots of their favorite series and characters. Most of the time, the big studios look the other way as there is no competition and no financial reward for the projects. What happens when these films get too big? Listen to find out!

  • WWI #48 Author/Artificial Intelligence Expert Calum Chase calls the show to discuss the oft ignored economic aspect of AI technology

Calum Chase is the author of The Economic Singularity: Artifical Intelligence and the Death of Capitalism and Surviving AI: The Promise and Peril of Artificial Intelligence. He joined the show to discuss another aspect of the rise of automated technology besides the peril of the human race and that is the peril of the human social structure. What will humans do when all the jobs become automated? Will the Earth become a utopia where robots perform daily tasks ans humans live lives of leisure or will millions of jobs be suddenly lost and only the few will have money for basic goods? These are  difficult question to answer and we were lucky to have Mr. Chase join us on today's show.
