In this month’s Walk Fife Podcast Sean explores Devilla Forest near Kincardine on a very blustery February morning.
The Red Squirrel Trail was one of the first walking routes to be shared through the Walk Fife website and has been popular with walkers since it’s upload and was shared with us by Walk Fife volunteer Sue Richardson.
The route is agreed 1 family friendly stroll and is best walked in the spring and summer months in order to enjoy the wildlife and scenery. You can download this route by visiting http://www.walkfife.com/maps-routes/the-red-squirrel-trail-devilla-forest/
After suggestions from listeners of our first podcast this month’s podcast has been recorded entirely outside by Sean as he walks the route. The forest is currently being harvesting for timber and the Forestry Commission have seal felling operation underway in a number of locations throughout the are. Sean talks about the need to be aware of your surroundings when such operations are taking place and what safety precautions to take.
As Sean walks around the forest he talks about some of the latest updates that have been appearing on the website including the addition of our new grading system for route. The grading system aims to make choosing routes far easier for the walker.
Sean also talks about the recent two new web pages that have been added to the site. One page is for Fife Walking Club and the other for Cycle Fife. Both groups have supported Walk Fife by linking to our site and in return we have added information pages to allow people to find out more about their activities.
As the wind picks up Sean shares some safety and navigation tips for walkers some based on his own experiences and explains why the humble whistle is something you should not be without when out exploring the region.
This route is a excellent route to follow and there are many more through the forest that we hope will be shared through the Walk Fife website in near future.
