  • Stuff We're Learning / You Can Do Hard Things
"Do one thing every day that scares you" - Eleanor Roosevelt
When you get stuck, you just need a little jumpstart to get out of the pit. Starting something new is the most uncomfortable part about change. Seth Godin says: “Change your mind, change your life. The only way to get better is to do things differently.”  You can’t grow if you can’t change. You can’t change if you can’t think differently. But once you start, your momentum snowballs.

  • Making Friends Is Awkward

Why is it difficult to make friends?

Why is it important to make friends?

As a married couple with kids, it’s difficult to make friends, but we think a lot of the reasons why begins with our avoidance of stepping out into potentially awkward situations. We could use the fact that we’ve moved 4 times in the first two years of our marriage, but to be honest that probably just an excuse. Making friends is important and it gets more difficult as you grow older, so we should probably work on it a little more.

  • 102: Tradition....TRADITION
Traditions are important and help make dull, monotonous things memorable. Sometimes all it takes is adding a little routine or rule and including more people to create a tradition. Like Friendsgiving or barefoot walks, or brushing your teeth together before you go to bed, folding laundry and watching parks and rec together.

  • 098: Scarcity Mentality
Sometimes the beliefs you hold, end up holding you back. “I’m not good enough, I can’t, I don’t have enough time, I’m not as good as _____, I would if I had more money, this is how I am, I can’t change, if my circumstances were different I could”... etc.
These beliefs cause us to think with a scarcity mentality which in turn causes depression, comparison, settling, complacency, dependence, fear... etc.
Understanding scarcity mentality is a good first step in change. Even though we’re just average people, we have the ability to live extraordinary lives if we change the way we think and don’t allow ourselves to become victims of our thought patterns or life circumstances.

  • 097: Bids For Attention

Do you know when you are trying to get someones attention and they just aren’t getting it? Maybe their social skills are off, maybe they’re tired, maybe your gesture or question wasn’t direct enough or maybe they’re distracted. Whatever the case, it’s kinda frustrating and can lead to not only miscommunication- but also missed communication.

This week we talk about bids for attention, text/subtext, and the ability to read between the lines.
