There is a false narrative that says that if we disagree we must divide. That mentality has led us to become a polarized society that can't reason and dialogue with one another. Rather, we sit around spinning our wheels and posting hateful diatribes on our social media accounts. We NEED to do better! In this episode, Alex and Angela are joined by their friend, Douglas Hughes, who shares his views and helpful tips for engaging our brains in critical thinking on important topics rather than allowing heated emotions to break down communication.
Alex and Angela recently visited Tulsa just after the 100th Anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre (also known as the Tulsa Race Riots). There is much pain associated with this sad day in Tulsa's history and yet an overwhelming majority of Tulsans have not even heard about the tragedy. A thriving, all-black community was burned to the ground and hundreds of black people were killed that day with many being buried in mass graves. Can the ancestors of those killed be expected to just move on? Listen in to hear Alex and Angela share their thoughts about what moving on would look like.
Did you know that there were over 400 shootings in the US over the 4th of July weekend, with 150 people being killed. People are being killed every week in many of our inner cities. Listen in as Alex and Angela have a candid conversation with one of Alex's cousin's, as they discuss the root causes of inner city violence and what the appropriate response should be to remedy the problem.
In this episode, Alex and Angela speak with George Westlake, Senior Pastor of the ethnically diverse church, Sheffield Family Life Center in Kansas City, MO. Listen in to hear how Sheffield transitioned from a "white church" to a diverse congregation starting back in the 1970's. You'll be blessed to hear Pastor Westlake's heart and passion for his community and be inspired to strive for racial harmony in yours!
Equality and Equity are terms heard frequently in the racial reconciliation conversation. Alex and Angela discuss the subtle difference between these words and the implications of striving for one over the other. As you listen, you'll learn about the Milton Hershey School for underprivileged children in Pennsylvania and how they strive to give equal opportunities for success to everyone in their community.
Following up on Alex's solo podcast about Globalization, he speaks with local businessman and long time friend, Sam Coryell, Jr. about how globalization is affecting us right here in the United States.
Have you noticed the headlines lately? It seems that the floodgates have been opened for people to give full vent to their emotions. This has resulted in what feels like an unprecedented amount of senseless violence and bloodshed. Alex and Angela want everyone to "simma down" and think through the issues (and strategy of The Enemy) in an effort to reduce the level of strife, division and violence our nation is experiencing. Let's focus our efforts on coming together to reason and strive to be in good standing with our fellow man. Christians, we have the power of the cross on our side to get this job done!
In this episode of the way we see it, Alex and Angela offer more insight to a graphic we posted on our ministry website that said, reconciliation requires forgiveness. Surprisingly, this sparked a lot of debate, so Alex and Angela did a Facebook live to offer a little more perspective as to what they really meant. Hopefully, this podcast will offer more context and encourage Christians to engage and lead the way in the much needed reconciliation discussions.
Alex and Angela share the things that they have learned about making marriage work during the twenty-five years that they've been married. Married or single, you'll enjoy this week's episode and hopefully take away some nuggets of truth that will bless and inspire you.
In this episode, Alex is all by himself as he tackles the biggest issues facing America today, near the top of his list is the issue of globalization. If you've never heard of it, don't be alarmed. In this episode, Alex walks us through what globalization means and how he believes it is negatively affecting our country. Even if you are one who doesn't normally understand economic issues like this, you will leave this podcast ready to enter the discussion.
