The Weeb Initiative

This week we discuss the other big idol franchise in anime, Love Live, more specifically Love Live Sunshine Season 1. A really cute and wholesome entry in the genre but sorely lacks in the writing department.

BEFORE YOU LISTEN: I got stuck with work related stuff and couldn't finish this week's episode so I chose to upload this unreleased episode of last season.

This week I will talk about a historic tale said to be the most accurate depiction of feudal Japan to ever come out, Lone Wolf & Cub. A really stylish emotional and inspiring saga which brings to light astounding character writing and the samurai bushido code

In a turn of events I swear I didn't plan out, this week we will be talking about the time Idolm@ster and Gundam got together in an anime and it was wack.

For this episode I will be talking about the latest in the Idolm@ster series The Idolm@ster Million Live. A somewhat sequel to the OG IM@S from 2011, tho it does not have the same grace as the original

Editor's note: Noticed that at the beginning I said Cinderella Girls when I meant OG Idolm@ster. Sorry for the blunder

Starting the main part of this years thene in earnest, let's talk about The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls U149, a return to form for the series after years without an anime. This one wears it's inspiration on the original IM@S on it's sleeve and while it doesn't sport the same presentation of the 2016 Cinderella Girls, it makes up for it in animation and wholesomeness.

For reference, the songs I mention in the episode:

5 ED (Risa's Episode): GEMSTONE

6 ED (Haru's Episode): ACE

Finishing the series we started last episode, today, let's talk about Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans Season 2. A not so well delivered end to the anime, full of cheap shock value and somewhat inconsistent writing unfortunately.

To contrast with the last episode, this week I will talk about Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-blooded Orphans. A heavy themed take on the Gundam series, though it underplays the weight of the subjects it engages..

Starting 2024 with something I was meaning to watch for a fair bit, this week I will discuss Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. A really nice mix of mecha, yuri and political entrigue.

To end the 2023 season of the podcast I wanted to update my manga list with everything added and finished this year as well as do a brief recap of everything that we covered throughout this period.

Recently finally had the time to finish up reading Kaguya-sama Love is War manga and in order to give it a proper send off I wanted to make an story analysis to remember how this unassuming rom-com began as your everyday manga and ended up redefining how we see character writing. I hope you enjoy!
