    Episode 129 : And So It Begins…
We’re back on our shit for 2021. Nick, Alex, and Jake are back this week and we start off with talking about blood. After the opening, we announce an exciting partnership with Fueled By Hops! (Our affiliation code : theweeklyrecap is good for 20% off at www.shop.fueledbyhops.com) This announcement jumps us off into sponsorship and merch talks on the podcast. Next up is the annual release of Troeg’s Nugget Nectar and we spend some time on memes. Alex and Nick reminisce about the First Squeeze experience and how great the atmosphere is at those events. We talk about Troeg’s new offering Double Nugget Nectar (which is a brewery only release). Nick then pivots to talking about Grist House and their new releases including a black IPA and a milk stout. After Alex tries to talk about LaCroix we talk about Dry January and the next beer Jake and Alex are gonna have when they’re back on the wagon. As we wind down, Nick shouts out Old Thunder’s False Kingdom as his IPA of 2021. Jake and Alex celebrate sobriety and they want to bring back the Twin Episode this year. Cheers and thanks again for listening!

Episode 128 : The Beerly Week Year
Happy New Year! Nick, Alex and Jake sit down this week and discuss the year that was 2020… yeah we know, we all want to just move on. We start with our New Year’s Resolutions! From there, we cover our 2020 highlights. Then we get into our “beers that helped us through 2020.” Jake takes us on his travels through California. We take a down turn and Jake talks about some of his worst experiences in the Bay Area. Nick and Alex talk about our outlook on 2020. After that, we pivot to accessibility of craft beer outside of a brewery’s direct market. We wrap this episode with a crazy amount of respect for how human we can be and how we all come together to support each other. We talk about podcast resolutions and wrap this episode with a shout out to all our friends. Thanks again for listening!

  • The Weekly Re-Cap 12/22/20 : Happy Holidays!
    Episode 127 : Happy Holidays!
Nick, Jake and Alex are back this week to bring you our holiday episode! We start off this episode by talking about some random stuff, but we soon get to our first segment this year : The Best and Worst of Christmas Movies! Jake goes first and has some “unpopular opinions” for all of us. Nick gives his opinions next and Alex takes the cop out response and sides with Jake’s picks. The Christmas movie debate leads us down the road of watching the bad hallmark movies and straight to streaming holiday movies. Jake asks what actor we would choose to be the star in a Christmas movie next and this one spiraled out of control. Alex leaves early and Nick and Jake continue on as we talk about our giveaway featuring @creeksidebeer on instagram. Jake and Nick give their best and worst Christmas songs on the tail end of this episode. Nick takes a turn and rants about the Beatles for a while and really digs in on his stance. The last segment of the holiday episode is kicked off by celebrating Trace Brewing opening in Bloomfield and we talk about our best and worst gifts we ever received. We wrap up by again thanking our fans and friends for letting us do this podcast.

  • The Weekly Re-Cap 12/16/20 : Celebrating and the Secret Santa
Episode 126 : Celebrating and the Secret Santa
Nick and Alex return for one final “normal episode” of 2020. Nick is excited as we kick it off this week. Alex has a revelation about self-awareness. Nick covers the release of Heini’s Good Cheer by Roundabout. We talk about experience ranking at breweries. We turn back to the Heini’s release (Nick called the bottle a 375 ml when its a 500 ml bottle) and the overall experience at Roundabout and how much we love it. We give our top 3 places that we’re going when we’re all covid free. We then cover what we’re drinking. After that, Alex wants to talk about Nick’s Beer Secret Santa experience. This obviously leads us to gift giving and how amazing we both are at gift wrapping. Wrap off with us any day. We wrap up (yeah I did) this episode by shouting out our friends and thanking all our new listeners! Thanks again for listening!

  • The Weekly Re-Cap 12/4/20 : Stand Up and Support Local
Episode 125 : Stand Up and Support Local
Nick and Jake are back this week recapping Fueled By Hops’ Cheers Yinz! Fest. After the introductions we talk a lot about supporting your local breweries and really any local shops you can instead of feeding into the deep pockets of the online giants like Amazon, etc. Nick goes down a rabbit hole of complaining about the holiday weekend but his point is to support local and give to charity if you can this time of year, and we know that this year has been tough on everyone but every little bit helps. We cover the beers we’re drinking next. Jake tells us about his recent craft beer escapades. Nick drinking the 2020 DoubleMex from BG launches us into an aged beer conversation. We talk about shipping beer next due to the chokehold COVID has placed on tourism and the local productions. After that, we go down the path of innovation and what breweries are doing to survive. We cover Black Aht day from Couch brewery and we talk about how important it is to support these local events and truly awesome things that are going on even in this crazy 2020 bullshit. We wrap up by talking about the Fueled By Hops community and boosting the support of every local spot you can think of. Thank you all again for listening and we’ll catch you next week! Cheers!

  • The Weekly Re-Cap 11/15/20 : The Return of Jake
Episode 124 : The Return of Jake
Jake rejoins Nick and Alex for a rare three brothers podcast. We start off by Jake re-capping all the podcasts we’ve done since he’s been on. We take a bit of time to look inward on this podcast and what we’re all about. Alex tells us about his certified “bangers” he bought on iTunes and that forces us to talk about Smooth by Santana featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty. Jake gets into his craft beer exploits; even though they’re not many, he’s still very much looking into the scene in San Jose. Jake tells us about his trip to Alvarado St Brewing and how much he loves Black Hammer and he completes his journey with The Rare Barrel up north. We talk a bit about supporting your local breweries and local artisans in any way during the toughest part of the year considering the issues we’ve all been living with. We ask Jake his top 5 emojis and we all tell ours for the content. Jake asks the important question, “The Pasta Shape” draft. This leads up to the end of the podcast where we shout out upcoming events. Thanks for joining and join us at Cheers, Yinz! Fest on Saturday 11.21.20!!!

  • The Weekly Re-Cap 11/8/20 : HelloBrewtifulPGH
    Episode 123 : HelloBrewtifulPGH
Nick and Alex bring on a special guest this week! The mind behind the @hellobrewtifulPGH, Jen! She kicks us off by talking about how she got into craft beer. After her introduction she talks about how the instagram beer account came about and how she grew her brand during the pandemic to push the industry in Pittsburgh and beyond. Alex thinks Jen is SO CUTE (drink every time you hear him say that for an added listening experience.) We make plans to go to Dancing Gnome and sit around the fire pit having a beer. Jen went creeper status at Fir Junction and stalked Ryan from Fueled By Hops but couldn’t get his attention. Jen is drinking Insurrection and Nick gets roasted for saying he’s known about them for a while. Jen goes on a rant about Lunchables and what the pandemic drinking experience has been like. We ask Jen her top emojis next and then we go right into her top 3 beer styles. Honorable mentions brought us to a conversation about Spring Hill Brewery. Alex asks Jen what her top 5 favorite Pittsburgh breweries are. Jen tells us about her experience with @hopculturemag ’s Beers with(out) Beards and her Bumble prize pack. Jen tells us about her famous Pittsburgh potty. We preview Jen’s panel on Cheers Yinz! Fest by talking about social media and influence and how you create your brand. We wrap up with Alex talking a bunch while Nick tries to make points. Thanks for listening and thank you to Jen (@hellobrewtifulPGH) for joining us!

Nick announces our next guest, @hellobrewtifulpgh on instagram. We drop the bomb on Cheers Yinz! Fest and how we’re gonna handle being a session on a digital beer fest. Alex talks about classic style beers. We talk about the new players in town, including Mondays Brewing in Peters Township and Redhawk coffee in Sharpsburg. This makes us spin off to a coffee shop x brewery conversation. Nick talks about the FMLFest experience a couple months too late. Talking about Even More Little Tiny Baby Jesus by Evil Twin Brewing sends us down a nostalgia hole. At the end we rehash our upcoming events and our first merch drop. Cheers Yinz!
