Nick and Alex welcome @pghbeerdouche Mike to the podcast this week! Alex questions Mike immediately about his history in the craft beer realm. Mike and Nick reminisce about Sharp Edge and early 2010s drinking which leads us to Caliente. We talk about Pittsburgh being a craft beer destination now, as opposed to still finding its way. We ask Mike why he named his page Pittsburgh Beer Douche. We interrupt Mike a lot in this segment. Cool Whip is good. After Mike finally finished his story of how the instagram account became a thing, we ask what his top 3 beer styles are. We talk pale ales and then move into the emoji question. Mike gives his response and we judge him mercilessly. Nick swoons over Bridge City Brinery again. Episode 147 : Guest Beers from ABV Chicago

Nick and Alex are back in the basement for an IRL podcast! We’re drinking beers our friends ABV Chicago brought us in exchange for some locals while they were in town! We kick this episode off with Hop Butcher for the World’s Green Moss and it makes us think about getting a flavor wheel again. Nick tells a story about food poisoning and not being smart. Alex got some Venmo’s for pride and we talk about the Fueled Family Reunion happening 7/17. Nick and Alex recap their weekends including Old Thunder and Four Points and a highlight meeting the Bridge City Brinery crew and the legend of the banana ketchup. After we talk about food trucks we roll into beer #2: Phase Three’s Pixel Density Lite. Episode subtitle : I don’t have many friends who drink craft beer except for the friends who drink craft beer - Alex. Alex ran into Aadam Soorma and revisited his Goldmark experience before telling Nick about his experience with 2 Frays Brewing in Garfield. We share our appreciation for being at the bar and the service industry handling it as good as they can. From there, we’re on to beer #3 which is a wild collab between Half Acre and Morton Salt called It Pours. This one was WILD and we both felt the same about it. We take a palate cleanser break with Mental Titans from Old Thunder and then we talk about the pricing of deodorant and general hygiene soaps and solutions. Beer number 4 is Supermassive Cafe Deth from Revolution Brewing with Dark Matter Coffee. After being wowed by this Revolution stout, Nick drops a gift from @hellobrewtifulpgh, the Platform x Prantl’s collab. We called Jen to get her reaction to Alex drinking this beer. Episode 146 : Pride and Podcasting

Episode 145 : Alex Does California

Alex returns from his trip to California to visit his twin Jake. Nick talks about his episode with Dave from Four Points last week. After that, Nick recaps his week including visiting Shubrew’s General Shu’s Chinese restaurant which launches us into a discussion about Butler and specifically Zelienople’s brewery scene. Alex takes over next and talks about his Cali trip. The twins visited Monterey and Carmel by the Sea and visited Alvarado Street Brewery. Alex was very impressed with the “Yeast of Eden” series of beers. They visited Fieldwork and Camino breweries and Alex was impressed. Travel was kind of a nightmare for Alex heading home from California. After recapping the rest of his trip, Alex explains Goodlander to Nick. Nick transitions to the news section of the podcast and talks about Brew Gentlemen’s new pop-up at the Allegheny Overlook! Next up, Grist House is open again! We talk Necromancer and the hype releases they’ve had recently, which have garnered the attention of ABV Chicago, a craft beer podcast who is visiting Pittsburgh soon. Nick gets on his soapbox about Cold IPA and how we can try to embrace the expansion of beer styles. To wrap up, we talk about how excited we are about Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week coming back and being put on by the Pittsburgh Brewer’s Guild. Episode 144 : Four Points Brewing

Nick and Sara are on-site at Four Points Taproom in North Side for a sit down with owner Dave! Nick immediately jumps into Dave’s story about how he got into craft beer and what all he does with Four Points (Hint: it’s a LOT). We talk a bit about the day to day and what Dave gets into with each piece of Four Points and the BBQ place. He tells us about how the Bodega series came to be what’s coming down the line. After we discuss what we’re drinking, Dave gives us he top used emojis. Sara had her 6 ounces of stout and gets chatty, so she wants to talk about ‘hop water.’ We learn a bit more about what hop water is and then transition to music and learn a bit about Dave’s history as a guitarist. Dave’s favorite beer on tap right now is the Das Tal, and we highly recommend you try it. This conversation took us to cold IPAs and what is coming this week from Four Points (no cold IPAs on the docket.) Nick and Alex are back for another week! The first edition of our Mailbag is coming to you! We threw up a question on our instagram page to see what you guys wanna hear from us! Nick keeps the “asker” anonymous until Alex answers as we go through the list of questions (thanks everyone for participating!) Nick and Alex welcome back Jen (@hellobrewtifulpgh) and our surprise guest Melissa (@bavaryinz) to the podcast this week! Episode 141 : Emotional About Beer

Nick and Alex are back after our quick break doing the Fueled By Hops podcast (Go check out episode 77!) We kick off this week by focusing on our mutual love of early 2000s pop punk/emo music. Episode 140 : Three Years of Recapping

We celebrate our 3 year anniversary! Nick, Alex, and Jake are joined by our friend Kate. We are blind taste testing Big Light Beers! We start off with our taste test and we try to stay on topic, but obviously this one is unhinged. We give our thoughts on what we think we’ll be able to pick out in this tasting. After we tasted the beers, we guessed how many we got right. We share our best or worst experiences with the beers that we tasted. The results were very telling and you’ll need to listen to find out who did the best. We thank you, our listeners for sticking with us for 3 whole years after the shitshow that was light beer showdown.
