  • Book of Boba Fett Chapter 1 - Instant Reaction

Much like Lord Fett, The Whiskey Geeks are here to rule with respect, and not fear.  Come along as we make our way back to A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away and give out initial thoughts on the first chapter of The Book of Boba Fett, we make some predictions as to what we might see over the rest of the season, and end by going way off course and ranking the Marvel TV Shows from this past year.

  • Macaloney's Caledonian | Review

The Geeks taste the Twa Cask series Highland and Islay blends, as well as the Peated Mac Na Braiche.

Come back next Friday as we pair this distillery with a truly amazing comic book, Secret Invasion.

    Notes from Macaloney:
The new-make underpinning this single malt took “World’s Best” at the prestigious 2020 World Whiskies Awards. This is the first single malt outside of Islay to use Canadian barley peat-smoked to 54 ppm at the distillery in a proprietary soaker-smoker. Whiskymaker Dr. Graeme Macaloney studied the traditional peat-smoking process in Islay, recreating it here on Vancouver Island. Matured in Portuguese red wine barriques.

Nose: Medium peat smoke, wood ash, floral notes, fruit, heather, lemongrass, juicy malt, nutmeg & cinnamon

Palate: Creamy, very smooth and pleasantly warming. Big peat with waves of peat smoke, heather brush fire, wood ash, and tropical fruits. Finishes with floral nectar, a dry malt sweetness, coconut milk hint of salt and lingering smoke.

    ABV: 46%

  • Ardbeg Blaaack Review | The Neck Pour Sessions

How does this stack up against the Wee Beastie, and Alex's Cask Strength Ord More (see last video for reviews)?

Make you subscribe to keep up to date with all of our content, and head on over to our website : www.thewhiskeygeeks.com and read our articles where we pair Whisk(e)y and Comic Books.

    Notes from Ardbeg:
Ardbeg Blaaack is the feisty Limited Edition bottled in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Ardbeg Committee, founded in the year 2000.

To mark such a momentous occasion, the Distillery vowed that the casks used to honour their global flock would be right on the nose. For the first time in Ardbeg’s history, we rounded up Pinot Noir casks from the country that lies the furthest distance from Islay – New Zealand, that other remote island nation where sheep have been known to outnumber the locals by 7:1.

Ardbeg Blaaack knits together velvety summer fruit pudding and bitter cherry, with a deeper edge of soot and Ardbeg’s hallmark smoke.

Perfect for toasting our legendary Committee.

  • Ardbeg Wee Beastie + Swamp Thing| Review and Pairing Part 1

We are changing up the format of these episodes, and will be alternating weeks so we can really focus on each aspect of our pairings.  Part 1 is all about the whisky, and next week we will be diving deep into the swamps and discussing the best monster story ever written, so make sure you are subscribed and come back next Friday.

The Geeks also share a dram of a very special cask strength Ardbeg, "Ord Mor" that Alex picked up a few years ago. (26:15)

    Notes from Ardbeg:
Ardbeg Wee Beastie is the latest permanent expression to join the Distillery’s Ultimate Range. At just five years old, Wee Beastie is a feisty young creature with a formidable taste.
    SOMETHING BIG AND SMOKY…
Our whisky creators set out to make the rawest, smokiest Ardbeg ever. The result is Ardbeg Wee Beastie and this tongue-tingling, beautifully smoky dram is the youngest Ardbeg we’ve ever made.

  • Bruichladdich Black Art 8.1 + Death Vigil | Review and Pairing

Jump into a time machine with us as we take you back to a time where Tim had long hair, Alex had spent time at the cottage.  The time is July, 2021.

Bruichladdich Black Art 8.1 was a gift for Alex's 40th birthday, and boy oh boy does it not disappoint.

    SPOILER SECTION FOR DEATH VIGIL : 23:40 - 36:00

    Tasting Notes from Bruichladdich:
Decades have passed since this unpeated spirit ran from the stills in our ethereal, Victorian stillhouse. The stillmen who were present in 1994 would have no concept of its destiny; that it would eventually become the eighth iteration of the notorious Bruichladdich Black Art. This spirit would take many weaving journeys within our loch-side warehouses. Each cask it met has been identified and nurtured over time under the tenureship of our Head Distiller. All with one ultimate purpose in mind. Few responsibilities are as daunting as the composition of this cuvee. Lesser distillers would be unwilling to release their finest casks completely unaccounted for, totally in secret. And yet, those in the know of our alchemic release, are fully trusting in the hands of Adam. Over eight releases now, this unaccountability has been justified.

    Notes from Glen Scotia:
Glen Scotia Double Cask whisky is a wonderfully easy-drinking Campbeltown Single Malt whisky with tastes of toffee, salted caramel and a sweet dry sherry finish.

Aged in bourbon barrels before being finished in PX sherry casks, this expression provides the perfect balance of rich spicy fruits, sea spray and sweet vanilla oak.  46% ABV
