- episode_72 // a three week blitz
A play by play of what three weeks on the road with Team Spiezia looks like-- while it's still technically pre-season, we're not short on things to do or places to go.
Belgium, the UK and the Netherlands, back to back for events, with some travel mishaps along the way.

TheWholeStory is a podcast about my family’s journey to follow Ellis’s singular passion for racing during a global pandemic. The episodes are audio recordings of the journal I’ve been keeping since the day we left home in 2020.
Shamelessly authentic and always with a sense of humor, I hope this story gives you a look behind the sheen of social media-- the shiny posts about racing, travel, and of course, eating, and sheds light on what it's really like to be a family taking risks and living life on the road.

6 min - episode_71 // musings from the laundrymat
When you buy a second-hand washing machine and then it's a German bank holiday so you can't get the parts you need to hook it up, you find yourself staring into the spinning drum of the washer, thinking thoughts about your existence.
Listen to what was on my mind.

5 min - episode_70 // the threshold for uncertainty
Sometimes my entries are detailed stories recounting our experiences of life on the road, and sometimes they are meta reflections on what it all means. Some are existential crisis, and others just a real questioning of where we are, what the fuck we are doing, and if it's all going to work out in the end.
This brief episode is a pre-season questioning of the alchemy at play.

4 min - episode_69 // change of scenery, part two
And the saga continues. Exactly two years after giving up our long-standing home in Hoboken, New Jersey, we're moving house again. Busted pipes, a comedy of errors, and the universe doing its work-- spoiler alert-- in the end we get exactly what we needed when it comes to a new place to call our own.
But it wasn't easy. I'll tell you that much.

14 min - episode_68 // we're moving, again
Anyone who's been listening long enough knows that we move. A lot.
This episode is the start of a long and twisted tale about moving to a new apartment (again). A busted pipe, a change of plans, and a commitment to move out of a place with no doors and a dorm-sized fridge for something better-- check it out.

9 min - episode_67 // anything but normal
Our family definitely wears 99 hats and works tirelessly toward the goal of getting to the top in the shark tank we call motorsport.
But often we question the impact of giving up 'normal' for Ellis as a teenager. Our life would certainly look very different if we hadn't pursued this path, and while we wouldn't give it up for the world, I empathize with Ellis for wanting more independence, daily routine, and friendships.

Here we go again my friends!
We're back with Season 4 of The Whole Story-- covering the 2023 season, you'll hear my off the record thoughts about race life, family life and life on the road.
In this opening episode, we're just getting the pre-season started, and I'm having a bit of a rant on social media culture and what it takes to have meaning in a content-omnivorous world.

The Obligatory New Year's Eve entry.
I thought this would be the last entry for season three, but guess what? There's one more amazing episode coming to wrap it all up.

About The Whole Story // risking it all for electric motorsport dreams
From the publisher's feed
'Life is good, life is hard, these two truths are unrelated.'
In the middle of a global pandemic, my family decided to risk it all and follow our teenage son Ellis's passion for racing, leaving everything behind in the US and heading to Europe. This podcast is a series of audio recordings of the journal I've been keeping since the day we got on the road.
Shamelessly authentic and always with a sense of humor, I hope this story gives you a look behind the sheen of social media of what it's like to risk it all with the people you love the most & who drive you the craziest, all at once.
