  • Tammie Mobley’s recovery from Domestic Violence

Did you know that, on average, nearly 20 people per minute are victims of abuse by a spouse/partner in the United States? During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women AND men. (NCADV.org)

It is October, and we honor all domestic violence survivors since it is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

TRIGGER WARNING- Some of the content may trigger victims and may not be appropriate for children.

On this episode of the WHoly Mom Chat, I sit down with Tammie Mobley to discuss how she overcame her trauma of domestic violence with her former husband. We also discuss red flags to look for in an unhealthy relationship, the impact of domestic violence, and how moms can equip their sons to treat women more respectfully.

    Listen in as we discuss:

    1. Tammie shares how her journey developed over time and how she realized she was in a domestic violence situation.
    2. The most dangerous time is when the abused victim starts to empower themselves.
    3. How to identify the “red flags” of an unhealthy or toxic relationship.
    4. Tammie also shares her advice for domestic violence victims and survivors

  • From Trials to Triumph with Demetria Buie

When we take off our rose-colored glasses and examine our childhood, we may notice many dysfunctional traits in our family. It’s not a topic we readily want to share with the public, much less admit it to ourselves. Once we wake up to the realization that our childhood was less than a stellar experience, it is a long healing journey to break generational barriers,  make peace with our past, and move forward with our future.

On this episode of the WHoly Mom Chat, I sit down with Demetria Buie to discuss how she overcame her experiences growing up in a dysfunctional family and how she processed her healing.

Demetria is a businesswoman, author, mentor, and international speaker who lives in the Louisiana area. As a junior high school dropout and two-time divorcee,

Buie could have let her circumstances affect her life negatively; instead, she used her experiences to enrich her life and the lives of others. Buie chose to follow the path God laid out for her, never letting anything slow her down. After being called to ministry and seeking the Kingdom, Buie started crafting courses and books to inspire women from broken backgrounds. Being able to help others is a gift, and Buie loves to lift and empower women from all over the world with her words. She hosts conferences and retreats for female entrepreneurs in business and ministry all over the country. One of her biggest joys in life is family and her handsome son.

  • Postpartum Mental Health and Mom Rage with Dr. Jessica Kaffer

For most women, having a baby is a beautiful and joyful time. For some, it can be a very stressful, anxious time. It can also produce something that one might not expect - depression.

Many mamas will experience “baby blues'' following childbirth, which usually lasts up to 6 weeks. They will experience symptoms like mood swings, crying, irritability, etc.

Sometimes, a more severe form occurs called Postpartum depression - symptoms include depressed mood, sleep issues, crying all the time, feeling of worthlessness, intrusive thoughts, plus several other symptoms. This period also increases the risk of suicide or suicide ideation.

As September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, this episode is dedicated to raising awareness in preventing suicide in moms by encouraging moms to take charge of their mental health.

On this episode of the WHoly Mom Chat, I talk with Dr. Jessica Kaffer, a licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Perinatal Mental Health Specialist located in the Phoenix area.  Jessica shares her journey of experiencing postpartum depression herself as we take a deep dive into mom rage and not being afraid to ask for help.

Note: If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) or call 911 immediately.

  • Reigniting Your Marriage with Veronica Cisneros

Being a mother is hard with all the demands and needs of our children, plus the needs and wants of our spouses, it’s hard to not lose our identity. There is so much to do: take care of our children, our homes, work on our marriages and relationships. No wonder we lose ourselves.

I’m so excited about this episode.

Today on the show, I sit down to chat with Veronica Cisneros to explore re-igniting the passion in your marriage, reclaiming our identity, her journey of losing her identity in motherhood, and finding her way back to herself.

  • Overcoming Cancer with Heather Moret

Did you know that almost half of all men and a third of all women in the United States will receive a cancer diagnosis at some time in their lives? Many times receiving a  cancer diagnosis often comes with little or no warning at all.

In today's episode, I chat with cancer survivor, Heather Moret to discuss her cancer battle with a rare and aggressive lymphoma. She shares how she handles the diagnosis, how it impacted herself as those around her, and the mindset shifts she needed during her battle.

Heather Moret is married to her graduate school sweetheart, Stephen, and together they have four children, ages 16 to 7. She studied journalism in college before pursuing graduate degrees in public administration and developmental psychology. One of her proudest moments was walking across the stage with her 5-month-old in arms and her 2 1/2 and 4 1/2-year-old sons to receive her doctorate in education.

She feels that real learning has occurred while caring for the many needs of her twice-exceptional children. In October of 2020, Heather was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive lymphoma. After 8 rounds of intense chemotherapy, she was declared in full remission in April 2021. She gives thanks to her heavenly father, her family, and friends for walking so closely with her through this difficult time.

And now that she's in recovery, Heather is back to baking and loves walking with friends and her husband. She is also obsessed with historic real estate and all forms of chocolate. Very soon you will be able to find her on her new website: https://www.raisingahallelujah.com

  • Positive Body Image with Holly Byrd Miller

Positive body image and self-talk doesn’t start by looking in the mirror or at the scale - it starts in our mind.

Self-talk is an intrinsic part of the human experience. We are hardwired for internal dialog with ourselves, and this is not always problematic.

The issues start when self-talk starts to focus on shortcomings or problems in one area or one situation, it becomes very easy to only see problems in many other areas or situations.  We need to focus on the positive, speak to ourselves with love, kindness and show confidence.

“The view you adopt for yourself profoundly affects the way you lead your life.” - Dr. Carol Dweck

In today's chat, I sat down with Holly Byrd Miller to discuss her own self-acceptance journey, the importance of positive self-talk and body image for ourselves and our children, and the influence Holly’s mom had upon her life and her outlook. Holly also shares some self-care and beauty tips!

Holly is a Brand and Beauty Expert who has over 25 years of experience. She is the CEO and Founder of Makeup by Holly. She is a Brand & Beauty Professional who travels globally Educating, Consulting, and providing Branding services for entrepreneurs and professionals. Holly started her professional Beauty career freelancing for luxury international companies: Giorgio Armani Beauty, Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, and LauraMercier.

  • Practicing Mindfulness with Yedda Stancil

Practicing Mindfulness seems like an impossible task these days, juggling children, work, home life, etc. However, you don't need to meditate or spend time on the top of a mountain in Colorado at some fancy retreat. Although that does sound amazing, doesn't it?  Mindfulness is all about paying attention to how you're feeling in your body, mind, and spirit.

In today's chat, I sat down with Yedda to explore her motherhood journey that led her to where she is currently, how we as moms can practice Mindfulness with ourselves and our children. Yedda also shares about her book, Shut Up and Sit, and her advice for other mamas.

Yedda Stancil is a consciousness coach and consultant. For over 25 years, she's supported clients in changing their behaviors and growing their businesses through narrative coaching, neuroscience, behavioral coaching, leadership training, integrative development, and mindfulness meditation. She holds an MBA and is a dynamic, creative executive leader, a results-oriented entrepreneur, and the co-founder of Mindfulness Bar—a fun and adventurous place to experience self-actualization in Richmond, Virginia. She recently launched her book: Shut Up and Sit: It is an extensively researched, delightfully sassy, power-packed guide to awakening, awareness, and personal transformation, illuminating the foundation of Yedda's innovative coaching process.

Yedda's own road to leadership, Mindfulness and personal development began at the feet of four masters: studying leadership from Ken Blanchard, entrepreneurship from Cameron Herald, Mindfulness from Deepak Chopra, and integrative development and narrative coaching from David Drake.

  • Trusting Your Gut: A Mother’s Journey with Molley Regan

Parenting is tough sometimes. But when your child is struggling with a disability or health issues, it can be very overwhelming.

This is especially true when you can’t get the proper diagnosis, the key to getting effective help is understanding what’s going on and advocating for your kids with the right doctors and specialists.

Today on the show, I’m joined by Molley Regan. I sat down to chat with Molley about her journey with her daughter Grace’s diagnosis of hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) 54 and how Molley followed her gut to find the correct diagnosis and treatment for her daughter. We also dive into information and resources for parents who are going through a similar situation.

Molley Regan is a proud wife, mom, advocate, and full-time Cyber Project Manager for a large Technology & Financial Institution. She has been married to her college sweetheart for 13 years, Tim. They reside in Alexandria, VA with their beautiful daughters Reese and Grace and their crazy, golden retriever George.

Molley and her family were on an incredible high/low journey for answers for their youngest daughter and the mobility limitations and challenges she was facing. In October 2020, during a pandemic, they took a leap of faith and pursued a life-altering neurosurgical procedure (SDR) at John’s Hopkins Children’s Hospital. Grace overcame the intense physical rehabilitation and is still continuing to get stronger, every day. SDR involves accessing nerves within the spinal cord, determining which of the nerve fibers are causing the spasticity, and severing those nerves.
