The Wisdom Journey

(Luke 1:1-38) Some of God’s greatest works are often overlooked because He is working through common, humble believers like Zechariah, Elizabeth, and Mary. God does not call us to be great people in this world but to be people of great faith.

The genealogy of Jesus is important in establishing His qualification for being Israel’s Messiah. It is also an important reminder that God graciously works in the lives of sinners like us to redeem us and make us a part of His eternal family.

We must know and accept Jesus Christ, not on our own terms, but for who He has revealed Himself to be: God the Son. This is the great truth John’s Gospel reveals to us—that God became flesh and dwelt among us for our sake, for our salvation.

Who is Jesus Christ? The answer to that question is absolutely critical to our eternal destiny. The Gospel of John gets to that point immediately, describing Jesus in its opening verses as the eternal Creator and eternal God.

The New Testament opens four hundred years after the Old Testament closes. In those four centuries following the book of Malachi, there was no word from God. But God was present and working through history to prepare the world for the arrival of the promised Messiah.

The book of Malachi gives us some good guidelines for living for the Lord in this world. We need to judge our attitudes and actions in light of God’s character, commit ourselves to obeying His Word, and look forward to the return of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

In this lesson, Stephen explores the danger of religious rituals when they become empty and meaningless. He looks at the book of Malachi and teaches how the Israelites had fallen into this trap. They were offering sacrifices to God without any real heart or sincerity. God rebuked them for this and called them to worship Him in spirit and in truth. You'll learn that your worship should be motivated by love for God, not by a sense of duty or obligation.

The history of mankind is the history of war. But the Bible tells us that a day of peace and justice will come to Planet Earth and the human race. This day will arrive when Jesus Christ returns and establishes His kingdom according to God's promise. In this lesson, Stephen teaches about Zechariah's description of the coming tribulation on earth and the final attack of the Antichrist on Jerusalem. You'll be reminded that God will not abandon His people or His promises. He will bring confusion upon the enemy's armies and empower the inhabitants of Jerusalem with His strength.

Stephen's lesson, "Choosing the Right Shepherd" discusses the importance of choosing the right shepherd in our lives. The prophet Zechariah prophesied about the coming of the Messiah, who would be the Good Shepherd. Jesus Christ is the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep. He is the only one who can truly satisfy our hearts and lead us to green pastures and still waters. We must choose to follow Him and make Him our Shepherd.

You'll also learn about the dangers of following false shepherds. There are many false shepherds in the world who will mislead us and lead us astray. We must be careful not to follow these false shepherds, but to choose the Good Shepherd who will lead us to eternal life.

In this episode, Stephen explores the book of Zechariah, chapters 7-8. In these chapters, the prophet Zechariah urges the people of Israel to obey God's commands, not just out of tradition, but because they love Him and want to please Him. He also reminds them of the consequences of disobeying God in the past, and the blessings that they will experience if they obey Him in the future.

Zechariah's message is a reminder to us today that our traditions should always be centered on God and His will for our lives. When we put our trust in traditions instead of God, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. But when we trust in God, He will always lead us in the right direction.
