Joel Dearing coached women’s and men’s volleyball over a span of 30 years and a total of 40 seasons (Roger Williams University 1981-89), then (Springfield from 1989-2010).  Dearing had a career record of 899-384, coached 10 All-Americans and his Springfield men’s team finished the 1996 season #1 and undefeated in NCAA Division III.  Author of Volleyball Fundamentals (1st and 2nd ed.) and The Untold Story of William G. Morgan - Inventor of Volleyball, Dearing has been on the USA Volleyball National Faculty since 1994.  He owned and operated Dearing Volleyball School, Inc. from 1991-2017, and launched Dearing Leadership, LLC. in 2018.  He was honored in 2013 by the International Volleyball Hall of Fame as the Mintonette Medallion of Merit Award honoree and in 2015 was selected to the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame.  He has conducted clinics in Ireland, Aruba, Argentina, China and Bermuda, and has been on the faculty at Springfield College since 1989 where he served as Program Director of the Athletic Administration Graduate Program.

Before turning to coaching, Leevan Sands enjoyed a 13-year professional career that was highlighted by winning the bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in the triple jump, while representing the Bahamas. Leevan Sands enters his second season as an assistant jumps coach for the Florida State track and field program. Sands is a four-time Olympian and 12-time Bahamas national champion. He currently holds the Bahamian national record in the triple jump (17.59) for outdoor and the long jump (8.10) in indoor. He also won the silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games and bronze medals from the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the 2003 World Championships, and the 2015 North American, Central American, and Caribbean Championships. Sands took on the role of a spokesperson for the Bahamas in 2008 and helped mentor kids from his home country, including the 2016 NCAA triple jump champion. Sands served as a volunteer assistant at Auburn High School in Opelika, Alabama, for two seasons where he helped produce two state champions in addition to the No. 3 triple jumper in the country. He also coached local junior basketball and youth baseball teams. Sands graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a degree in adult education. He was the 2003 NCAA long jump champion and the NCAA triple jump champion in 2004.In 2004, Sands was named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. Prior to his collegiate career, Sands was the Gatorade Athlete of the Year after winning gold in the long, triple, and high jump at the High School National Championships in 1999. He was also the indoor high school champ in the long and triple jump where he set the record in the triple jump (52’8”).

In 2015 Justine set the Guinness World Record for fastest backwards half marathon and again in 2019. What brought her to try running backwards? In 2010 only one year after running her personal best marathon time at the New York City Marathon, Justine was forced to face the reality that she may never run again because of runners dystonia. Born into a family where sports have always been a big part of life. Mom was a good athlete already in elementary school in different sports and Dad played flying, nesting and pitching at the championship level. Dad happened to try tennis and then it was as if a moped got out of hand. He started coaching my brother and me. The topic of the dinner table was pretty much about tennis wins. The main question was whether did the palm pass and did the feed go? I knew when I was young that I would probably do something about tennis. When the guy then called and asked if you would come to America to study at university with a tennis scholarship then the choice was pretty easy. Brother (Kim), on the other hand, started playing professionally and toured around the world for more than 10 years and later coached many successful players and served as the captain of the Finnish Davis Cup for 10 years.
