The Wise Consumer episodes

  • Hannah Dehradunwala, Transfernation co-founder, on creating an on-demand food app to feed the hungry.

“Part of the reason I love Pakistan so much is because of my grandmother’s house. It’s like a museum for old things -- she keeps everything. Which is both concerning and fascinating ... but everything in her house has a purpose. She believes you can’t trash things you don’t have a use for." -- Hannah Dehradunwala

    In this episode we cover:

    • How her pakistani upbringing shaped the way she views waste
    • The challenges faced in building a start-up with a social impact
    • Art battles (who knew that  was even a thing?!)
    • How she overcame her fear of stuttering

  • Grant LeBeau, Rickaroons co-founder, on the importance of scaling your business, the start-up grind, and social impact

"I remember our very first sale was to this woman -- she just had no idea how exciting it was for us to be selling in-person to a random person who wasn’t family or friend. We wanted to take a picture with her. I mean, just imagine if you went to Gap or Trader Joe’s and they got so excited they wanted to take a picture of you? You’d be like, "um can you just relax please!”" recalls Grant LeBeau, co-founder of Rickaroons.

My guest in today's episode is Grant LeBeau, co-founder of Rickaroons, the delicious energy bar founded in San Diego, Ca.

    In this episode we cover:

    • What it’s like to co-found and run a business with your dad.
    • How the love of a woman with MS inspired Rick, Grant’s dad/co-founder, to create a delicious, healthy, and gluten-free energy bar that became a favorite for many.
    • The importance and challenges when it comes to scaling your business.
    • Conscious consumerism vs. conspicuous consumerism.
    • Why ingredients should be sustainably and ethically sourced.

  • The Wise Consumer: What's this show really about?

Thought I should introduce why I decided to start this podcast in the first place and what this show is really about.

And, rest assured, this is not a show about the doom and gloom of the world we live in today and it’s certainly not a show where we judge those who aren’t living that “perfect" sustainable lifestyle.

The Wise Consumer podcast is a show where you get to hear directly from social entrepreneurs. People who have made the issues that often seem insurmountable to most of us - their life’s work. These are the stories of those who are doing well by doing good.

It's going to be a great first season!
