Geralt, Triss, and Ciri join up with a caravan to travel through a war-torn area. They are set upon by Squirrels (who are more dangerous than they sound) and learn about war and bigotry in the battle. Spoiler: they're both bad.

Triss joins Ciri on one of her (drug-induced) prophetic visions. The prophecy: pain and death. Triss also discusses her experience in the war against Nilfgaard: pain and death. Triss tries to get Geralt interested in world events, but he refuses. Probably because of the pain and death.

Triss Merigold makes her way to Kaer Morhen, where the witchers need help taking care of Ciri. Her first recommendation: stop feeding her hormone mushrooms from the witcher cave. Also, maybe let her read a book now and then.

Geralt and Ciri are traveling to Kaer Morhen, but this chapter spends most of its time with Dandelion. Dandelion first regales a crowd (and us readers) with a handy recap of the story so far, then he meets a very enthusiastic fan. Unfortunately this person is a fan not of Dandelion but of torture.

Geralt, convalescing in a rag-cart after being trenched by some bridge ghouls, has a series of combo hallucination/flashbacks which fill in several blanks in his situation. Specifically to do with Ciri and his destiny. It turns out that destiny doesn't like being denied.

Geralt journeys to the heart of the wild woods of Brokilon. He mostly manages to not get killed by the dryads. He also runs into one Ciri, a child who appears to be his Destiny. As usual, the D word makes Geralt run for the hills.

Geralt meets a mermaid! Not a little one, a regular-sized one. He also meets a beautiful and intriguing bard (also regular-sized). One of them wants love, the other wants him to avoid tangling with the deadly fish people from that underwater city.

Geralt and Dandelion meet up with Dandelion's old friend Dainty the merchant. But not really, because Dainty has been replaced by a shapeshifter! The shapeshifter turns out to be better at Dainty's job than Dainty, making Geralt wonder if this is a problem really worth solving.

Geralt is living with his on-again (but mostly) off-again true love, Yennefer. Things are perfect though, because Yennefer doesn't like to be pinned down and Geralt might be an emotionless mutant. They form a love/hate triangle with another wizard, Istredd, and things end sadly for all involved.

It's basilisks and mercenaries, witchers and dragons in The Bounds of Reason, the first story of Sword of Destiny. Geralt teams up with a dragon slaying crew (despite being a non-slayer himself) as they hunt down a dragon for its loot. Why would he join? Same reason he does lots of stupid things: Yennefer is there.
