In Ephesians 4:17–19, the apostle Paul shows why us as Christians must reject this pagan way and live a God-centered, Word-driven life.

The Bible teaches that it’s not a lack of information or understanding about God—unbelievers are willfully ignorant, suppressing the truth because their hearts are hard. Every thought, feeling, and desire stands in opposition to God.

The Bible teaches that unredeemed humanity is completely dead to God, unable to break free from their spiritually lifeless condition. Put simply: They cannot enter God's kingdom, grasp the truth of His Word, obey His commands, or please Him—they are incapable even of coming to God for salvation.

The Bible reveals that unredeemed sinners are naturally hostile to God, drawn toward worldviews that oppose Him. But the gospel proclaims that God can transform even the most unredeemed sinner, renewing minds to reflect the image of Christ.

The Bible calls Christians to abandon their old ways and embrace a new life—one that shines with the beauty of salvation in Jesus Christ. By God’s grace, we are redeemed and now walk in newness of life, a life utterly opposed to the pagan ways we once knew.

As believers in Jesus Christ, we must understand what we have been redeemed from and embrace the power of God that now operates in our lives. We used to be controlled and dominated by our sin. We used to follow the thinking of the culture. We used to embrace the mindset of the world around us. But because of Christ, we are no longer enslaved to our sins and those ideologies.

In light of new spiritual life in Christ, God has reconciled every believer to Himself as part of His family—as either a son or daughter. But in response to that powerful truth, Ephesians 4:17–19 calls us not to live like our old selves but to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel.

As God's beloved sheep, we will never lack provision, never lack restoration, never lack His perfect direction, and never lack His mighty protection. But here's the breathtaking truth that changes everything: God's shepherding care doesn't end when this life does. It extends into the glorious new heaven and earth for all eternity.

At the end of Psalm 23, King David describes a royal banquet in which God Himself is King. But in an unexpected way, God invites all those who have turned from their sin and trusted in Him to be His honored guests.

King David—the warrior, the king, the man after God's own heart—found his deepest solace not in victory or power, but in this beautiful reality: God, his Shepherd, comforted him through the deepest and darkest valleys of his life.
