The Olympics brought the hot button topic of Transgender Athletes to the forefront with Quinn and Laurel Hubbard competing in Japan. The topic of fairness in sports often comes into play, along with an array of moral questions, often led by a lack of understanding. In this exclusive 2 part interview Nathan sits down with Australias potentially most, reluctantly, well known trans-athlete, Hannah Mouncey. Hannah will be the first to tell you that her gender identity makes up such a small part of who she is, which makes the conversation, with the controversial nature of transathletes, in mind, all the more interesting. In Part 1 of this 2 part special, Nathan and Hannah dive into Hannahs childhood growing up in Australia, moving to Canberra, falling in love with Handball (and no, it's not that game you played at school), the difficulties of competing in a self-funded elite sport, representing Australia internationally, and the path that eventually led to her coming out while sitting poolside in Qatar. We explore how the acceptance of her gender identity not only affected Hannah, but those around her, her sporting dreams and her family and friends. We discuss how people mourned who Hannah was, while adjusting to who she is as well as exploring the changes she went through after visiting a Doctor and beginning hormone treatment. The images coming out of Afghanistan and broadcast to the world have been truly horrific. Following the departure of the troops, the Taliban have won back power in ten swift days leaving so many Afghans fearing for their lives and livelihoods under the ruthless regime. Nathan sits down for a no-frills, raw, conversation with Noorzia, an Afghan Australian whos husband is now stuck in Kabul, 24 months into a partner visa process with no end in sight, and no way out, as chaos ensues in the Afghan capital. Noorzia shares her story of the despair watching from afar, the fear she holds, in particular for her relatives and friends, and outlines the visa 'process' that leaves her none the wiser when her husbands partner visa will be granted. Noorzia discusses her 2020 visit to Afghanistan before the troops left, the affects the Taliban will have on women in Afghanistan, why she feels it only took 10 days for the Taliban to claim Kabul, and why the Afghan President is a coward. We discuss her 7 year journey for an Australian visa to be reunited with her own Father, and how getting an Australian visa was a day she can never forget!
