[00:00:00] Diana Winkler: Hey, that's me. I'm glad that you're here. Glad you stopped by to listen. I'm hoping that the podcast episodes, the guests and the resources are helpful to you in your healing journey. That is my goal. I work very hard to bring you the best to improve the value of the podcast. So if you don't know already, I have started to include the transcript in the show notes for you, and the YouTube videos have subtitles.
[00:00:43] And I know you're saying to me, Diana, it's nice of you to catch up with the rest of the world. I know I'm a bit slow to learn the technology, but I've got it done for you, so [00:01:00] I hope that brings value to you. Now shortly, I will be doing some 30 second advertising before the show, just a heads up on that. It will not be interrupting the podcast in the middle of the interviews like some podcasters do.
[00:01:23] I don't think that's a very good idea, especially with the delicate subject matter of the show. But I need to learn how to monetize my show with the minimum amount of annoyance. Right? Okay. We have a wonderful show for you today, A male survivor story. He's a life coach with a different perspective. We're going to be talking about faith and addictions, marriage, and [00:02:00] real solutions for healing.
[00:02:03] The ladies listening, you might get an insider's look at how your man thinks. Are they struggling, how to help him.

  • EP 101: How Can We Find Humor When Studying The Bible? Jake Doberenz
We are having a great time during our Bible Study series. This week my guest is Jake Doberenz from Creatively Christian Podcast and Theophany Media. Jake is known for finding the humor in everyday life, and even in difficult passages in Scripture. He loves to study the writings of Paul, passionate about exploring the depths of Scripture, and loves to snuggle up with his wife and cats on the couch. He has a unique and fresh perspective when it comes to studying God's Word. Join us for a enjoyable conversation, filled with practical tools and witty, comical sayings!
    Bio:
Jake Doberenz isn’t one thing. He identifies as a polymath, a Renaissance man, or a multipotentialite–one interest or specialty can’t contain him.
But enough of the third-person. I am a writer, speaker, minister, and creative thinker living in Oklahoma City, OK with my wife Samantha. My most significant role is the founder and president of Theophany Media, a Christian education company dedicated to helping Christians engage with culture through new media. I have earned my Master of Theological Studies at Oklahoma Christian University, the same place I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Bible with a minor in Communication Studies. I also worked at my alma mater as a Resident Director and Bible TA.
I write fiction and nonfiction in a variety of mediums, including poetry, short stories, books, stage plays, academic essays, and devotionals. I also venture out into other mediums, like podcasts and video. My favorite topics of choice to discuss and write about (though always changing) include: creating Christian art, helping people understand the Bible better, Christian identity, theology of social media, use of humor in faith messages, superheroes and theology, and a Christian response to culture.

Together, the Tracys co-founded and co-direct Mending the Soul, mentoring and supervising collaborative teams of writers, artists, musicians, educators, students, mental health providers, and business professionals who create the sustainable healing models and curricula for Mending the Soul Ministries for global application.
Steve and Celestia have three grown children, who, with their families, partner with them in ministries of justice and mercy.

    Quick Bio
I grew up in a Christian home have known Jesus since I was six years old. After a short time of teenage rebellion, I went to North American Bible College (Now Taylor College & Seminary) in Edmonton to “figure things out”. There, I rededicated my life to Jesus, met my wife, Anita, and was called into full-time pastoral ministry. Since then I’ve been serving Jesus’ in all areas of church life — preaching and teaching, writing, music, leadership development, small groups, tech, sound, graphic design, photography, video editing… whatever it takes to share Jesus and teach scripture in a creative and inspiring way!
In September 2020 a new chapter of my life started when God made it absolutely clear that he wanted me to give up looking for a new ministry position, stop seeking secular work, and dedicate myself full-time to serving as a missionary on the new frontier of global missions as a Twitch streamer. It’s been quite an adventure since then, but over the past months I’ve had God’s call affirmed in amazing ways as He’s changed people’s lives through my channel. If you want to hear some stories and hear updates on how the ministry is going, here are some podcast episodes to check out:
If you really want to get to know me, I shared my “testimony” (life-story) in a series of 7 podcast episodes recently (#23-29).

  • EP 96: Do I Need Bible College To Study The Bible? Paul Granger
We're starting our new series this week on how to study the bible for abuse survivors! This is such an important part of our healing, especially with spiritual abuse. I have invited trusted bible teachers to come on the podcast and give their best tips and advice on studying the bible for yourself. Paul Granger is our first honored guest, who will inspire you and encourage you to get started in God's Word. Please join us for this life changing series and share this episode!
    Transcript below!
    Bio:
When asked who he is, Paul likes to say "a child of God and ambassador of Christ",  because he's learned that these elements of his identity supersede and shape the rest.  One of the ways God has invited him to live out the call to "love God and love others" is through the "shepherding gift": providing pastoral support, creating space for conversation and community, and advocating for those that may go unseen.Functionally, he has spent the last two decades serving with various ministries, and now serves full time alongside YWAM in loving his neighbors in authentic ways.  He also loves to create, whether it is his podcast "Where did you see God", writings, or videos.  He loves spending time with his wife and kids, and they see their home -- which God gave them in a crazy way -- as an important piece of how they love their neighbors as a lifestyle.

  • Episode 94: How To Apply Emotional Intelligence To Control Your Triggers: Agape Garcia
So you've heard of post traumatic stress disorder, but we're gonna find out what post traumatic growth is today. Agape Garcia is going to tell her powerful story of childhood survival, defying all odds, and protecting her child from her abusive husband. She describes how she has risen above her trauma, learned to deal with those triggers, and helps others to be their incredible selves!
    Transcript below!
    Bio:
Be Your Incredible Self (BYIS) best describes Ms. Garcia’s tenacious attitude towards empowering others. Garcia, over the past 35 years has navigated through domestic violence, privacy, safety, vulnerability, and the mindset to endure personal adverse events in life. Her survival of a double attempted homicide while 8 months pregnant (by the father) and the desperation to survive became the catalyst to the foundation of BYIS while achieving an undisputed outlook of independence.  During her journey to overcome, Garcia learned that extreme independence is a trauma driven response and a natural one which can be defeated through focused, self awareness and intentional control.Through her own walk, harsh lessons brought on by extreme independence resulted in areas of her life being sabotaged repeatedly.  Her personal journey of post traumatic growth has led Garcia to dedicating her life in developing transformational programs, various forms of coaching, certification courses and establishing a nonprofit to help real time victims. Her commitment is to provide lifelong transformational habits that can restore your powerful internal sense of control. One of her personal statements, ‘You don’t live anywhere but in your head’  is why some of her laser focus teachings are on aligning your mental and emotional belief system.

    TRANSCRIPT:
[00:00:27] Hello? Hello. How are you guys doing?
[00:00:31] Diana Winkler: Are you having a good day? It has been a weird day so far. It's never boring in this place. I went outside to water all the plants and make sure that the birds and the cat was watered and fed. And I heard the sounds of a horse whinnying. Now, [00:01:00] I know that none of my neighbors have horses, none of them that I know of have horses. So I'm on top of a hill so I can see the valley below me.
[00:01:13] And I see that my Northern neighbor has somebody on the side of the house with a truck and a horse trailer. And there was a horse in the trailer. And I thought, oh, okay, somebody's visiting with their horse for a few minutes. And I went back into the house and eating my breakfast and all of a sudden I hear
[00:01:39] the horse winnying pretty loud. I could hear it from inside the house. I ran outside and
[00:01:46] I had walked over to my neighbor's wall and I peeked over the wall and my neighbor does not have any kind of set up for horses. [00:02:00] If you are familiar with Sanford and Son, that's pretty much what his backyard looks like. And I almost didn't see the horse when I saw the horse's behind. Oh, there is a horse over here!
[00:02:16] I'm not losing my mind. Oh. And the horse is so pretty. Beautiful horse. It was like a gray, speckled horse. I could not see if it was a male or female. And the horse was tied to the tree,
