The 'X' Zone Radio/TV Show

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Wajid Hassan, author, speaker, teacher, actor, humanitarian and longtime student of metaphysics and New Age spirituality. Born in Pakistan, raised in England and later settling in the United States, Wajid's life has followed an unusually varied path—from working as a field service engineer to stand-up comedy and more than 20 years as a union actor performing voice-over, narration, commercial, television and movie work. He also describes having more than 40 years of involvement with metaphysics, spirituality and alternative healing concepts. The Struggle for World Sanity!Wajid is the author of The Struggle for World Sanity!, a book that presents his personal spiritual journey and his ideas about how humanity might create a more peaceful, compassionate and environmentally responsible world. An important influence on his beliefs was Dr. George King, founder of The Aetherius Society, whom Wajid identifies as his Yogi Master and whose teachings he says he followed for more than four decades. The Aetherius Society incorporates spiritual teachings involving yoga, metaphysics and claimed communications with advanced extraterrestrial intelligences; these extraterrestrial and metaphysical claims are matters of religious or spiritual belief rather than scientifically established phenomena. The Struggle for World Sanity!During his conversation with Rob McConnell, Wajid explores what he sees as humanity's need for a “Great Change”—a movement away from conflict, materialism, environmental destruction and division toward greater spiritual awareness and service to others. His interests encompass humanitarianism, environmentalism, UFOs, metaphysics and humanity's relationship with the planet. His life has included some decidedly earthly challenges as well: in 2006, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, an accomplishment he has connected with perseverance and overcoming personal limitations.

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Dr. William A. Gaspar, physician, metaphysical researcher and co-author with Dr. José A. Jaramillo of The World Tree: Gathering for the Shift of 2012–2013. Gaspar's work attempted to connect ancient mythology, astronomy, sacred geometry, spirituality and traditions from civilizations including the Maya and ancient Egyptians in an effort to understand what he and Jaramillo believed might accompany the much-discussed transition associated with 2012. The 'X' Chronicles featured Gaspar and Jaramillo's work in 2011, describing Gaspar as an internist who had appeared on several programs discussing these subjects. FlipBuilderAt the heart of The World Tree is an ancient symbol appearing in different forms throughout numerous cultures—the cosmic or world tree connecting Earth, the heavens and the greater universe. Gaspar and Jaramillo examined creation myths, celestial symbolism and ancient cosmologies in search of similarities they believed might contain information concerning changes in Earth's cycles. Their book considered subjects including the Maya calendar, Egyptian symbolism, astronomical cycles, solar activity, sacred geometry and the idea of a transition from one cosmic age into another. PaperzzGaspar and Jaramillo went considerably further than conventional archaeology or astronomy, proposing that ancient traditions might contain warnings concerning Earth changes, severe weather, solar disturbances and even shifts involving Earth's axis or poles. Such catastrophic interpretations of 2012 were highly controversial and were not supported by mainstream scientific evidence; the predicted worldwide catastrophe associated with December 2012 did not occur. Their work nevertheless provides a fascinating example of the extraordinary mixture of ancient history, astronomy, mythology, metaphysics and apocalyptic expectation that surrounded the 2012 phenomenon.

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes William Gladstone, author, literary agent, publisher, filmmaker and researcher who became known for his exploration of Mayan traditions and the meaning attributed to December 21, 2012. Gladstone attended Yale College and earned a graduate degree in cultural anthropology from Harvard University. His career also included work as the original researcher for the television special In Search of Ancient Mysteries, hosted by Rod Serling. The 'X' Zone guest archives document his appearance with Rob specifically as “The Implications of 2012.” William GladstoneGladstone explored the 2012 phenomenon through his novel The Twelve, which follows a character named Max on a worldwide spiritual journey connected to twelve individuals and the supposed significance of December 21, 2012. The story travels through Jerusalem, Athens, London, India, Istanbul, China, Japan and Mexico as its characters search for the meaning behind what was popularly described as the end of a great cycle in the Maya calendar. Google BooksDuring this conversation, Rob and William examine the extraordinary fascination that surrounded 2012. Was December 21 destined to bring destruction, or had the popular “Mayan apocalypse” interpretation misunderstood the significance attributed to the calendar? Gladstone approached 2012 less as a prediction of literal planetary destruction and more through ideas involving human consciousness, spirituality, transformation and the possibility of a new era for humanity. His later novel The Power of Twelve explicitly portrayed 2012 not as civilization's end but as a potential turning point toward a more humanistic and less violent existence.

Join Rob McConnell for a classic conversation with one of the most recognizable figures in the history of UFO research, Stanton T. Friedman. A nuclear physicist by training and a longtime resident of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Friedman spent 14 years working on advanced nuclear and space-system projects for companies including General Electric, Westinghouse, TRW and McDonnell Douglas before devoting himself full-time to UFO research. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from the University of Chicago and eventually lectured on flying saucers around the world. Red Wheel WeiserAt the centre of this discussion is Friedman's book Flying Saucers and Science: A Scientist Investigates the Mysteries of UFOs. Drawing upon more than 40 years of UFO research, Friedman examines scientific studies of unexplained aerial phenomena, advanced propulsion concepts, interstellar travel and the physics of high acceleration. He argued that travel to nearby star systems need not violate known physical laws and made the controversial case that some UFO reports represented extraterrestrial spacecraft. That conclusion was Friedman's position, not a finding established by mainstream science. Google BooksFriedman was also closely associated with some of UFOlogy's most famous controversies. He helped bring renewed attention to the Roswell incident, investigated the disputed Majestic 12 documents, examined the Betty and Barney Hill case and frequently challenged both SETI advocates and prominent UFO skeptics. He further argued that the U.S. government had concealed important information about UFOs—an alleged cover-up he famously called the “Cosmic Watergate.” These claims remain disputed, but Friedman's research and advocacy made him an enormously influential figure in modern UFO culture.

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Dr. Richard Ruhling, a retired physician, author and commentator whose interests extend from medicine and preventive health to current events, religion, biblical prophecy and American government. Ruhling was board-certified in internal medicine, received cardiology training and taught Health Science at Loma Linda University from 1974–1978. His appearance with Rob is preserved in The 'X' Zone archives specifically as “The National Defense Authorization Act.” Podcasts OnlineAt the centre of this conversation is the controversial National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012, signed into law by President Barack Obama on December 31, 2011. Much of the debate concerned Sections 1021 and 1022 and the government's authority to detain people connected to al-Qaeda, the Taliban or associated forces under the post-9/11 Authorization for Use of Military Force. The Congressional Research Service noted at the time that debate centred on whether the legislation merely confirmed existing presidential detention authority or expanded it. Every CRS ReportSection 1021 provided several possible dispositions for covered detainees, including detention under the law of war without trial until the end of the hostilities authorized by the 2001 AUMF, trial by military commission, trial by another court with jurisdiction, or transfer to another country or entity. Section 1022 established a military-custody requirement for a narrower category of certain non-U.S.-citizen al-Qaeda-associated detainees, while also providing presidential waiver authority. President Obama objected to aspects of the provisions and stated when signing the legislation that his administration would not authorize indefinite military detention without trial of American citizens. Every CRS ReportJoin Rob McConnell and Dr. Richard Ruhling on The 'X' Zone Radio Show for a discussion about national security, terrorism, presidential power, civil liberties and the difficult constitutional questions that emerged in America following 9/11. How much authority should government possess in the name of national security? Where should the boundary lie between protecting citizens and protecting their constitutional rights? What did the 2012 NDAA actually authorize—and what was sometimes overstated about it? And when national security and individual liberty appear to collide, how should a democratic society determine where that line belongs?

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Grant Cameron, veteran Canadian UFO researcher, author and lecturer whose investigation of the phenomenon began in 1975, following his personal sightings of the mysterious object that became known as “Charlie Red Star” near Carman, Manitoba. Those experiences launched Cameron into decades of research involving UFO sightings, Canadian government investigations, Wilbert B. Smith and Project Magnet, U.S. presidents and government secrecy surrounding the UFO phenomenon. SpreakerAfter years concentrating on government documents and the traditional “nuts and bolts” approach to UFOs, Cameron says his perspective changed dramatically following what he describes as a mental or noetic “download” on February 26, 2012. He interpreted the experience as pointing him toward consciousness as a central element of the UFO mystery. His subsequent research expanded into reports of sudden inspiration or knowledge appearing in science, inventions, music, art, literature, near-death experiences, meditation, and among savants and prodigies. YouTubeDuring his conversation with Rob McConnell, Grant explores the provocative possibility that some moments of extraordinary creativity or insight might represent what experiencers call “downloads”—information seemingly arriving suddenly and fully formed rather than through an obvious conscious reasoning process. Cameron has investigated whether similar experiences reported by UFO witnesses, musicians, scientists, inventors and other highly creative people could somehow be related to consciousness or non-human intelligence. These interpretations remain speculative; experiences of sudden insight are real psychological phenomena, but attributing them to extraterrestrial or non-human sources has not been scientifically established. Cameron explored these themes in books including Inspired: The Paranormal World of Creativity and Tuned-In: The Paranormal World of Music.

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Sandee Mac, longtime metaphysical researcher, dowser, lecturer and alternative-practices teacher for an exploration of one of the most controversial subjects in the paranormal world—alien contact, UFO encounters and alleged extraterrestrial abduction experiences. Sandee's appearance is documented in The 'X' Zone historical guest directory specifically under “Alien Contact.” FlipBuilderSandee has been researching and teaching metaphysical and alternative practices since the 1970s. Her background includes training or initiation in numerous disciplines, including dowsing, past-life regression, hypnosis, shamanism and Feng Shui. She also served as president of the American Society of Dowsers. Most relevant to this conversation, Sandee says she has worked for more than three decades with people who identify themselves as UFO abductees and extraterrestrial contactees. Sandee MacDuring her conversation with Rob McConnell, Sandee explores the experiences reported by people who believe they have encountered non-human intelligences. Such accounts can include unusual lights or craft, missing time, vivid memories, recurring dreams, unexplained sensations and perceived communication with extraterrestrial beings. Sandee approaches these experiences through her metaphysical framework and has worked with individuals who describe themselves as traumatized by alleged encounters. These interpretations remain controversial: extraordinary claims of extraterrestrial contact and abduction have not been scientifically established simply through personal testimony, hypnosis, dowsing or other metaphysical techniques.

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Adara An D'Rianna, author, speaker and executive coach whose work focuses on identifying and releasing what she describes as the emotional and energetic “charges” that prevent people from moving forward in their personal and professional lives. Adara is the author of Loving YourSelf FREE of Charge: Clearing the Emotional Blocks That Stop You!, published by Rainbow Creators in 2010. Adara's story took a dramatic turn in December 2002, when she found herself seriously ill in a hospital and believed she might be dying. According to her account, what she learned during that experience—and through a series of experiences she describes as near-death experiences over the following seven years—changed the direction of her life. A home-health nurse who had watched other patients die from the same infection reportedly encouraged Adara to put what she had learned into a book. In her work, Adara presents techniques intended to help people recognize emotional reactions, limiting beliefs and unresolved experiences that she believes can interfere with creativity, relationships, vitality, business performance and personal fulfillment. She subsequently worked as an executive coach, author and speaker, particularly with entrepreneurs seeking to overcome emotional and performance barriers. Her methods also incorporate concepts of “energy” and energetic blocks; these should be understood as part of her personal-development and spiritual framework rather than scientifically established medical treatments.

Join Rob McConnell and Adara An D'Rianna on The 'X' Zone Radio Show for a fascinating discussion about emotional baggage, personal transformation and the experiences that can shape our lives. Why do experiences from years ago continue to influence our behaviour today? Can we learn to recognize the emotional triggers that keep us stuck? What did Adara believe she discovered while confronting her own mortality? And could letting go of unresolved emotional burdens allow us to approach our relationships, careers and lives in an entirely different way? Adara's original conversation with Rob is preserved in The 'X' Zone archives as “Clearing the Emotional Blocks That Stop You.”

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Adam Hartung, business strategist, author and expert on innovation, organizational change and corporate leadership. Hartung is the author of Create Marketplace Disruption: How to Stay Ahead of the Competition, in which he developed what he calls The Phoenix Principle—a management philosophy arguing that successful organizations must continually adapt to changing markets rather than become locked into strategies and practices that worked in the past. Hartung has held executive positions in Fortune 100 companies and worked with consulting organizations including Boston Consulting Group and Coopers & Lybrand. Hartung's Phoenix Principle challenges what he calls the “Defend & Extend” mentality—the tendency of organizations to protect existing products, practices and business models even as circumstances around them change. His alternative emphasizes recognizing marketplace shifts, challenging institutional “lock-in,” creating disruptions and establishing what he calls “White Space,” where new approaches can be tested and developed. The central lesson is straightforward: long-term survival depends upon an organization's willingness to recognize change and adapt before a crisis forces it to do so. During this conversation, Rob and Adam examine those principles through the lens of the catastrophic BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The April 20, 2010 explosion killed 11 workers and initiated the largest marine oil spill in U.S. history. Subsequent litigation found BP grossly negligent in connection with the disaster, and the company ultimately faced tens of billions of dollars in settlements and other costs. The catastrophe provides a powerful case study for examining corporate decision-making, risk management, leadership, organizational culture and what can happen when warning signs and potentially catastrophic risks are inadequately addressed.

Join Rob McConnell and Adam Hartung on The 'X' Zone Radio Show for a discussion that goes beyond BP and asks questions relevant to virtually every organization. Why do successful companies sometimes become prisoners of their own past? What happens when protecting profits and established procedures becomes more important than adapting to changing risks? Can corporate culture make an organization blind to danger? And could the principles that allow a company to reinvent itself before competitors destroy it also help prevent the kind of organizational failures that can contribute to catastrophe? Adam Hartung's appearance is preserved in The 'X' Zone guest archives as “The Phoenix Principle and The BP Oil Spill Disaster.”

Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes The Right Reverend Brian C. Keneipp, longtime leader of the American branch of The Aetherius Society, an international spiritual organization founded in London in 1955 by Dr. George King. Keneipp serves as Executive Secretary/Executive Director of the Society's American Headquarters and as a Bishop in the Aetherius Churches. His original appearance with Rob is preserved in The 'X' Zone archives as “Executive Secretary of the US Aetherius Society.” Keneipp first met George King in 1978 and subsequently worked closely with him for more than two decades. Beginning in 1987, he became one of King's chief full-time aides, assisting with administration and recording and transcribing messages that King and the Society believed were communications from advanced extraterrestrial intelligences. Following King's death in 1997, Keneipp continued his work with the organization and became Executive Secretary of the American Headquarters in 2004. He was consecrated as a Bishop in the American jurisdiction of the Aetherius Church in 2010. The Aetherius Society combines elements of yoga, Eastern spirituality, Christianity, metaphysics and UFO beliefs. George King claimed to have received communications from advanced extraterrestrial beings, including an intelligence called Aetherius, and taught that spiritually advanced extraterrestrial “Cosmic Masters” were assisting humanity's evolution. Keneipp teaches King Yoga and participates in spiritual practices and missions that Society members believe can direct spiritual energy toward humanity and the Earth. These claims concerning extraterrestrial communication, Ascended Masters and spiritual energies represent the religious and metaphysical beliefs of the Society and have not been scientifically established as physical phenomena.
