Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Angela Lusk, a Texas-based psychic who says she has experienced psychic perceptions for much of her life. Angela's appearance is preserved in The 'X' Zone archives as “Psychic in Texas,” and she has discussed clairvoyance, intuition, spirit communication and the challenges faced by people who believe they possess psychic abilities. Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Anthony Armstrong, M.Eng., P.Eng., a Canadian engineer, author and researcher whose unusual NJ-12 Biosphere Project asks one of the most sobering questions imaginable: If humanity failed to prevent an all-out nuclear war, could enough people, knowledge, technology, plants and animals be protected to allow civilization to begin again? Armstrong says his interest in nuclear survival developed after working in a short-term scientific and technical military-intelligence position at Canada's National Defence Headquarters. His engineering background has also included electronics, solar-energy research and intellectual property. Armstrong's concept eventually became The NJ-12 Biosphere: How to Survive “The End of the World as We Know It.” Published in 2020, the science-fiction story follows Nathan Daniels, an engineer who develops a massive self-contained Biosphere Dome City after exposure to military planning convinces him that some means of preserving a remnant of humanity would be necessary following nuclear catastrophe. Armstrong describes the concept as a kind of modern-day Noah's Ark, intended to shelter people and preserve elements of Earth's biological environment and human civilization for potentially hundreds of years while the outside world recovers. But Armstrong's thinking extends beyond fiction. He has continued developing what he calls a Biosphere ARK Dome City, proposing highly advanced technologies for energy, protection, transportation and eventual ecological reconstruction. Some elements of his proposal—including zero-point energy, force-field protection and zero-gravity craft—remain speculative concepts and are not established technologies demonstrated at the scale his project would require. Armstrong nevertheless argues that contemplating the enormous requirements necessary to survive a nuclear exchange may itself serve another purpose: reminding humanity just how catastrophic nuclear war would actually be. Join Rob McConnell as he welcomes Anna Dee Olson, author, speaker and former member of an Amish community, for an extraordinarily personal look inside a way of life that remains mysterious to many outsiders. Anna is the author of Growing Up Amish: Insider Secrets from One Woman's Inspirational Journey, in which she recounts the challenges of being raised by Amish parents and ultimately making the life-changing decision to leave the community and build an entirely different future for herself. Anna says the strict expectations of her upbringing became increasingly difficult for her during her teenage years. For approximately four years, she struggled with the decision between remaining within the only culture she had ever known and pursuing the life she wanted outside it. At 24 years old, she finally left the Amish lifestyle, knowing that her decision could profoundly affect her relationships with family and community. She has subsequently spoken publicly about subjects including shunning, Rumspringa, Amish family values, education, religion and the difficulties of adapting to mainstream American society. Leaving meant learning many things most people outside an insular religious community take for granted. Within a year, Anna earned her high-school equivalency diploma, and in 1993 she began pursuing her dream of attending college, eventually earning an Associate of Applied Science degree. She later became an author and public speaker, using her own experiences to help audiences understand Amish culture while discussing forgiveness, personal choice, perseverance and the difficult process of creating a new identity without completely erasing the past. Minnesota's Lake Agassiz Regional Library later hosted a series of her presentations specifically designed to increase public understanding of Amish culture. Join Rob McConnell and Anna Dee Olson on The 'X' Zone Radio Show for an intimate conversation about Amish traditions, faith, family, rules, Rumspringa, shunning and the enormous courage required to leave the only world you've ever known.
