In this episode Luke and Sarge chat to Matthew Kalatzis, a podiatrist operating his own private clinic in Melbourne, Australia. After studying a Bachelor of Health Science at La Trobe University (https://www.latrobe.edu.au/courses/bachelor-of-health-sciences), Matthew completed his Masters of Podiatry, composing his thesis on shin splints in runners.  

Matthew began his podiatry career on the Gold Coast in Queensland, starting his own business predominantly servicing local nursing homes in and around the Gold Coast area. Matt soon sold this business and returned to Melbourne to open his current business, Comfort Feet (https://www.comfortfeet.com.au). In 2018, Matt was recognised as one of the Best Young Achievers by the Manningham Business Council.

In this episode Luke and Sarge talk to Fiona Kerr, an Osteopath currently working in private practice in Melbourne. Fi studied Osteopathy in a 5-year undergraduate degree immediately after finishing high school. During her degree, she gained experience working as a sports trainer at a local football club, and as a receptionist at a private osteopathy clinic.

Fi completed her mandatory work placement at a physiotherapy clinic during her final two years of study, eventually turning her part-time receptionist role into an osteopath position that she has been working at ever since. Fi discusses the relevance and importance of business skills in allied health practice, this was not something she had been educated in or anticipated needing before having her own practice. The discussion explores the benefit of volunteering positions and the benefit of mastering one skill at a time in practice before rushing to the next one.

In this episode Luke and Sarge interview Annie Storey, the founder of ADAPT Careers (https://adaptcareers.com.au).

Annie founded ADAPT Careers in 2018, working specifically with young adults to help them transition from education to the world of work.

As a career counsellor Annie's purposes are to help her clients make informed decisions about their chosen pathway out of secondary education and to provide them with the tools and knowledge they need to plan for their career.  Annie’s intention is to help young adults set themselves up for a purposeful and productive working life. Annie encourages her clients to equip themselves with knowledge about the world of work through career conversations, and accessing the latest information from relevant industry bodies and education providers.

Of the hundreds of secondary school and university graduates Annie has helped with the transition from education to the world of work, one theme is constant; the majority say they do not have a clear understanding of the world of work. TYPP hopes to bridge this gap with young professionals sharing their career stories with young adults.
