As we approach the election, John Piper released an article admonishing the virtue of self righteous passivity. This is my response.

*for clarification* I am not suggesting that pastors should start endorsing candidates. (It’s my view that pastors should not endorse candidates but should boldly teach their values and let the audience draw their conclusions about how they will vote. I also believe Christians who are NOT pastors should get involved and their leaders should be very respectful of their audiences and the controversy that comes with standing up for Christian values.) I am taking issue with the fact that Piper wants it both ways. He wants the untarnished reputation of not being involved AND the influence of being involved. To which I say, NO. You cannot have it both ways. Either get in and take the hits, or respectfully shut your mouth and let us make these hard decisions. You cannot sit it out until the end and then come in and lecture us.
