On Friday, October 20th, the Zen Center of NYC will host John Brehm reading from The Poetry of Impermanence, Mindfulness and Joy (Wisdom Publications, 2017). This new anthology, edited by Brehm, features over 125 writers addressing the timeless themes spelled out in the book’s title. Spanning centuries but revealing common concerns, poets ranging from Jane Hirschfield to Tu Fu, William Carlos Williams to Wislawa Szymborska speak of the miracle of this present moment, revelations of true happiness, and the beauty and anguish of it all slipping away. Join us at 7pm for a selection from each theme. A small reception follows the reading. (CLICK HERE for details.)
The next day, on October 21st, John will offer a workshop dedicated to exploring poetry through mindfulness. The class will be co-led by Alice Boyd, a certified Feldenkrais practitioner who also happens to be John’s spouse. Together they’ll lead us through movement, meditations, and readings that explore an intimate relationship with the heart of poetry. (CLICK HERE for more info.)
