Max is a transgender teen living with mum Paige and father Arnold. When brother Isaac returns home from the marines, he finds war has broken out at home. Finally liberated from an oppressive marriage, Paige is set to dismantle the patriarchy and follow Max into a brave new post-gender world. But in this savagely funny work, annihilating the past doesn’t always free you from it.

Hir is a tenderly heartfelt and highly intelligent new work from one of the ground-breaking artists of our time, Taylor Mac, whose A 24-Decade History of Popular Music was the critical smash hit of the 2017 Melbourne Festival.

The Children

In an idyllic cottage on the British coast, two retired nuclear scientists are enjoying the quiet life. Outside, the world is in chaos after a devastating Fukushima-like disaster. Then one day, an old friend arrives with a frightening proposition. The fallout will be cataclysmic.

Award-winning playwright Lucy Kirkwood’s brilliant new play The Children asks big questions about the responsibility that each generation faces in leaving a better world for the next, with Pamela Rabe (Wentworth), Sarah Peirse (Switzerland) and William Zappa (Rock ‘n’ Roll) balancing the stark realities of our times with intrigue and humour. This Australian premiere is directed by MTC Associate Director Sarah Goodes.

Falsettos

StageArt presents Falsettos The Musical.

Falsettos is the award-winning musical by William Finn about an unconventional, dysfunctional, yet very loving family in New York in the late 1970s.

Falsettos is about a charming, intelligent, neurotic man named Marvin (Don Winsor), his ex-wife Trina (Sarah Shahinian), his lover Whizzer (Sam Ward), their about-to-be-Bar-Mitzvahed son Jason (Ben Jason-Easton), their psychiatrist Mendel (Nick Simpson-Deeks), and the lesbians next door – Dr Charlotte (Francesca Arena) and Cordelia (Jenni Little).

It’s a hilarious and achingly poignant look at the infinite possibilities that make up a modern family… and a beautiful reminder that love can tell a million stories.

The Kransky Sisters

In a quiet town in the middle of south east Queensland lives a huddle of strange sisters, whom, in between tending ants, knitting egg warmers, and hanging out cane toad skins to dry, travel around the country performing their popular musical shows to a growing following. This oddball musical trio marry curious real life stories with a host of uniquely homemade arrangements of popular songs gleaned from their old wireless in a highly entertaining event.

With kitchen pot, toilet brush, keyboard, musical saw, tuba, guitar and duelling tambourines these three weird yet endearing spinsters present offbeat covers of songs ranging from Nana Mouskouri and Eurythmics to Talking Heads and The Bee Gees.

The combination of the Sisters’ sheltered view of the world seen through their superbly droll comic dialogue, and alluring musical sound makes this night out with your strange old aunts an unforgettable experience.

The Kransky Sisters have been regular guests on television including SBS’s In Siberia Tonight and ABC’s The Side Show and Spicks and Specks and BBC’s Comedy Shuffle.
