    Ordinary Days

A contemporary chamber musical, Ordinary Days centres around four individuals in the metropolis that is New York, and the amazing ways in which their lives intersect in a city of millions. A proven cult hit, this double love story features a sensational score by Adam Gwon, and humorous insight into modern love, finding connection, and celebrating beauty in our everyday lives. A refreshingly honest and poignantly accurate portrayal of how 8.3 million individual stories can combine in unexpected ways to make New York City such a unique place.

A reminder that there is always something beautiful to find in the mess around us.

    21 Chump Street

A fourteen minute musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda (In The Heights, Hamilton), 21 Chump Street is based on a true-story as reported by acclaimed NPR podcast and radio show, This American Life.

For the first time in Victoria, we tell the cautionary tale of Justin, a high school senior, and Naomi, the cute new girl he falls for in class. Justin goes to great lengths to oblige her request for marijuana in the hopes of winning her affection — only to find out that his crush is actually an undercover cop planted in the school to find drug dealers. 21 Chump Street confronts the issues of peer pressure and conformity in schools, and covers the stark divide between the sensible-seeming ‘war on drugs’ and the stark, unexpected realities of its enforcement.

    1984

April, 1984. 13:00. Comrade 6079, Winston Smith, thinks a thought, starts a diary, and falls in love. But Big Brother is always watching.
Set in a world where an invasive government keeps a malevolently watchful eye on its citizens, this radical and much-lauded staging explores surveillance, identity and why Orwell’s vision of the future is as relevant now as ever.
Produced by UK theatrical innovators Headlong along with Nottingham Playhouse and the Almeida Theatre, George Orwell’s dystopian classic came roaring onto the stage in 2013 and since then it has become an international phenomenon.
Seen by over 400,000 people worldwide, it has enjoyed three hugely successful West End seasons as well as an international tour including a sold out season at the Melbourne Festival.
Now with a brand new Australian cast, we bring adapter-directors Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan’s thrilling vision back to Australia for a national tour.

    Minnie & Liraz

The Autumn Road Retirement Village in Caulfield has a fiercely competitive bridge club, but with old age doing its inevitable work, no bridge partnership lasts for long. When Minnie loses her playing partner in an unfortunate swimming accident, Liraz is desperate for them to team up. You see, Minnie has a granddaughter and Liraz has a grandson. Both are hopelessly single. Laying all her cards on the table, Minnie is bidding hearts.

After her success with Neighbourhood Watch, playwright Lally Katz returns to MTC with a characteristically oddball story of kindly Jewish grandparents and raw ambition. As riotously funny and brilliantly original as you would expect a brainchild of Lally Katz to be, Minnie & Liraz has a misfit charm that will leave you grinning. Award-winning director Anne-Louise Sarks (Medea) returns to conduct a great cast in which veterans Nancye Hayes AM (Funny Girl) and Sue Jones (Other Desert Cities) mix with comedy darling Virginia Gay (Seven’s Winners and Losers).
