  • The Bunker Podcast 212: Marco Shuttle
When we asked @marco_shuttle if he wanted to podcast an excerpt of his all night set from Public Records in February, he responded that he really wanted to publish the whole set start to finish. so here you have it, nearly 6 hours of Marco playing to the very intimate dancefloor at The Bunker Limited at Public Records in Brooklyn. This set is quite a bit different than what you might normally hear him play at a big techno club or festival, and we're thrilled to present this side of Marco's sound.

  • The Bunker Podcast 210: Tristan Arp
    artist statement from @tristanarp:
I'm grateful for the adventure of producing this Bunker mix––a collage of polyrhythmic explorations from around the world that point to the pursuit of all rhythms slinky, freaked-out, and asymmetrical. I wanted to sculpt these selections into new forms by carving and collaging heavily, so you’ll hear up to four channels playing at the time. The hidden potential in a wild combination is what keeps me curious, and the glue that holds this web together. These zones have kept me moving while finishing Suggested Forms (out Feb 14th on Human Pitch) and Temporary Music by my collaborative project Asa Tone on Leaving Records. Please support all the brilliant soundbenders behind these tracks and buy their records :~)

  • Men With Secrets - "Cabaret (Démodé)"
Lead single from the "Psycho Romance and Other Spooky Ballads" LP (The Bunker New York BK-041)
Sometimes you want something so badly you don't even know to ask for it in the first place. Like Adam and Eve stumbling upon the fruit of knowledge — or psychedelic techno wizards Donato Dozzy and Retina.it (aka Lino Monaco and Nicola Buono) producing a pitch-perfect, vintage-styled minimal wave record, filled with icy synths, shuddering bass, and anthemic vocals, sounding like a lost gem unearthed from 1982 for the first time.
Except it's not — this record is brand new. The three Italians first came together under the moniker Le Officine Di Efesto, releasing an EP of murky left-field techno on Dozzy's own Spazio Disponibile. They quickly discovered a shared love of classic post-punk, wave, and synthpop, and not long after, Men With Secrets was born.
"Men With Secrets" might sound like an old-school synthpop act you've never heard of, but the name is actually borrowed from Richard Bone, an early New York electronic musician and minimal pop pioneer. The trio's name is but one of their many homages — Cabaret Voltaire, The Human League, New Order, and even Dopplereffekt are additional reference points — but this album is neither imitation nor rehash. It's just as carefully and ingeniously produced as you'd expect a record from Donato Dozzy and Retina.it to be, except it's filled with poppy hooks so brilliantly catchy they'll stick in your head until you hit 'Repeat' and find yourself singing along.
These Men With Secrets clearly have their tongue placed firmly in cheek: check the record's title and artwork for proof. But the music is deadly serious. The drums hit hard, the synths soar to emotional heights, and the vocals intone rhythmically. All of it's coated in the warm fuzz of analogue tape. Not many records on The Bunker New York are as likely to be played in goth clubs as they are by adventurous techno DJs, but then again, this is not your average Bunker New York record.

  • The Bunker Podcast 209: Eric Cloutier
Eric @Cloutier on the inspiration for this mix: "It's impossible to fully describe the importance of Theorem (@theorem-thx) in my life. Upon first hearing the “Nano” album I was immediately sold on his sound. Moving artfully between psychedelic, dub and chill varietals of techno, the picture he painted on this full length on Plus8 blew my mind…and honestly still does. Fast forward to the “Mantra One” EP, and I knew this wasn’t a fluke but a revolution of a genre. Almost like clockwork, singles on a sub label of M_nus started dropping; I was indoctrinated in to Theorem's sound 100% at this point. Beautiful, patient, delicate, unique, and timeless - Theorem’s records, both solo and with a handful of equally amazing friends, such as Stewart Walker, Sutekh, and Swayzak, are at once undefinable and unquestionably from one defining point in electronic music history. I’ve been fortunate enough to stay friends with Theorem for well over a decade, and he’s blessed me with a trove of unreleased transmissions I’ve never felt comfortable putting to a recording until now. Without this music I honestly don’t know where my techno life would have taken me, but I am forever indebted to Theorem for what he unintentionally did to a random connoisseur back home in Detroit.

  • The Bunker Podcast 208: Taylor Bratches
@taylorbratches is a DJ, producer and writer based in New York. She curates the mix series Walking and Falling, an appendage of the Chicago-based DJ mentorship program for female and non-binary artists. As a lifelong poet and dancer, her relationship to rhythm is intimate and ever-evolving. Heavily influenced by artists like Erika, Patrick Russell, Eris Drew, Sassmouth, Abby Echiverri and Derek Plaslaiko, her sets aim to fuse genres and to move people physically and spiritually, creating an experience that is both terrestrial and extraterrestrial. She has an upcoming release on Enmossed and writes for Resident Advisor.
artist statement: "This mix features selected tracks from Skee Mask, Somatic Responses, Objekt, Sam KDC, Yaleesa Hall, revlux, Alonzo, and others. It was made in ecstatic joy - I was jumping up and down and dancing in front of my CDJs while mixing. I improvised it in one take and lead with my intuition. Then I listened to it back and started to wonder: is it too intense? Too challenging? Too weird/psychotic? Too psychedelic? Too imperfect? Too emotional? Too dance-oriented? Too hybrid? Then I realized: this describes exactly who I am. So this mix not only represents what I'm drawn to currently, but me on some fundamental level." - Taylor Bratches
