If you live in a red state like Texas, Tennessee, or Florida you may assume that since the end of Roe v Wade and the successful passage of heartbeat bills that it is a thing of the past. But this lie, primarily fueled by the prolife industry, is exactly what stands in the way of *actually* abolishing it. Even here in Texas, with some of the strictest laws in the nation, tens of THOUSANDS of unborn children are murdered annually right here, legally.

It’s hard to fathom, but in the United States Reformed Christians make up a very small percentage of protestant congregations and congregants. That means that publishing houses that are much bigger than Reformation Heritage books and personalities with a bigger reach than R.C. Sproul exert significant influence over a much broader swath of American evangelicals than small, reformed outfits.

Just as everyone is not fit to reprove (Galatians 6:1), not every one is fit to be reproved (Matthew 7:6). It is not only permissible, but even commanded, that we minister to the wicked. Jesus himself was called the friend of sinners. And yet, Christ clearly instructed his disciples not to preach the gospel to those who were obstinate after the gospel had already been preached to them. Our evangelistic efforts should not be wasted on those who blaspheme the gospel and persecute those who preach it. Instead, we are commanded to turn our efforts towards others (Acts 13:41).

C.S. Lewis once warned us that famished nature will be avenged and a hard heart is no infallible protection against a soft head. In other words, nature always finds a way. Today, most 18 year olds could walk into just about any bank and be entrusted with thousands of dollars of credit. We as Americans take debt and its accompanying, exorbitant interest for granted. But this wasn’t always the case. Old Testament Israel, the ancient philosophers, the early church, medieval societies, and the reformers all enforced strict prohibitions on any usury, or at the very least, capped interest rates and prohibited their use to exploit the poor. What changed and why?
