During the first century BC construction was started on what would be a temple dedicated to the Roman god, Jupiter. This religious edifice was situated within the scenic Beqaa valley in the city, that was known then, as Heliopolis. The complex would see its completion around 60 AD and would be the largest temple ever to be constructed by the Romans dedicated to a deity. Every part of the structure was built to massive proportions and of a scale truly befitting that of the gods. Surrounded by towering columns that stood 62ft tall the Temple of Jupiter was part of a triumvirate with two other colossal temples which were dedicated to his wife, Astarte, and their son, Mercury. While the columns and temples are most certainly Roman, there are still secrets that lay buried beneath these ancient wonders. Within the foundation of the Temple of Jupiter are 3 cyclopean stones which puzzle archaeologists to this very day. All written records of the construction of the temples are lost to time and these huge stones defy all explanations on how they were moved from the suspected quarry 800m away. During the Cold War, the constant threat of a global nuclear conflict was a dark spectre that haunted the heads of the world’s superpowers. Almost every occurrence of objects launched into the atmosphere had to be identified and accounted for. Hundreds of missile tests and satellite launches from both sides of the Iron Curtain were matters of national concern. But it wasn’t until 1978 that the Soviet Union took formal action to investigate UFOs that had been reported all across the country. In May of 2008 the U.S. Congress Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Committee on Energy and Commerce met to discuss the proliferation of bio-containment labs. At the time, the Department of Homeland Security was proposing the shutdown of a facility isolated on an island off the East Coast of the U.S. and transfer of its operations to the mainland. This specific bio-research facility had been at the center of the effort to combat the pathogen known as foot and mouth disease. Foot and mouth disease, a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that can severely affect cattle and farm animals. Its virulence made it a major concern during the Cold War when the U.S. military had considered using it to destroy Soviet farms and food stores. During the meeting in 2008, the subcommittee discussed a government exercise that had been implemented to assess the preparedness of the U.S. in the case of a large-scale outbreak. The exercise ended with the destruction of almost 50 million head of livestock, food shortages, riots, and a 25 mile ditch filled with the carcasses of infected animals. The facility that, for 50 years, has been at the heart of the research for this calamitous disease may have other secrets locked away in its deepest levels. Known to history as “Gold Country” the mountains not only possess rich mineral variety but also boast an impressive abundance of plant and animal life. Shrum and his companions were set to participate in a leisurely weekend of bowhunting among the pristine forests and rugged ridges set within Tahoe National Park. Shrum had no idea that on this trip he would have an experience that would fill his nightmares for years. In 2011 the FBI added a short one-page memo to their extensive online archive that sent waves throughout the UFO world. The memo, addressed directly to then-director J. Edgar Hoover, had been sent from the desk of the head of the Washington field office. The memo contained claims from a third-party source that the Air Force has recovered alien craft from the New Mexico desert. Not only had the military recovered crashed vehicles but also the memo had details of bodies that had been retrieved from inside the craft, as well. UFO researchers pored over these details and came to the conclusion that, although the details seemed to resemble the alleged Roswell UFO crash, the memo may actually have described an entirely different event from a book published in 1950 that contained claims from scientists who had worked on the retrieval of an approximately 100 ft craft almost 300 miles northwest of the infamous Roswell.
