As an artist, Gifty does it all - she’s a part of four different dance families in Germany. First there’s the M.I.K. (which stands for movement is key) family, who were recently featured in Puss Puss Magazine, I quote “not only for their contribution in arts and entertainment but also for their ability to turn their struggles into something meaningful through art... Being black in Germany meant that the family had to work twice as hard to gain the position that they’re in… This created a role model function for the younger generation of black creatives in Germany.”
Gifty’s also a part of the all female Shero Movement collective, the Kiki House of Angels and Gorgeous House of Gucci in Germany. She discovered the vogue and ballroom scene during a time she was seeking to empower herself through body language and inclusivity. She believes ballroom goes beyond the runway and she’s able to carry confidence in everyday life because of this.
Gifty and Elise met on set for the Nike Blazer Holiday campaign. Nike wants to support artists, dancers, activists and many more by giving them a shoe that is just like them: versatile, iconic, never the same. We are very grateful to share that this episode of THERAPY OF DANCE IN CONVERSATION is sponsored by Nike.
