It's back to just your favorites! Julee and Ryan are here this week to discuss their perspectives on communication and conflict resolution.
Julee and Ryan share their personal stories and what they've learned to ask for when engaging in conflict. They go over many different rules and strategies in how to manage your own emotions while still playing on the team of your partner. In this episode, you'll get to hear Julee talk about how she personally manages conflict with her husband, how there can be a push-and-pull effect between the partners, why we should discuss our expectations to avoid misunderstandings, and the common hang-up of people grieving that a conflict even had to happen!
Ryan also gives a fun scenario at the end for Julee to decide how she wants to resolve, and we leave the episode looking at ways we can examine ourselves and continue to grow.

Need a guide on how to deal with the immature people in your life? Thank goodness we have Lindsay Gibson with us today!
Lindsay is a clinical psychologist and well-published author with a lot of advice on how to deal with the immature parents and people that we might be stuck with. We cover a whole lot in this episode, discussing how the media seems to elevate immature personalities more, how to handle those who don't treat us how we want to be treated, and what happens to us when these people make the interaction all about them.
Ryan also shares a memory of a time his mom handled something very maturely.
Check out Lindsay's website and look to get her new book, "Disentangling from Emotionally Immature People."

It's rare in this day and age to hear about healthcare that truly cares, but that is what you'll find at Waterford Place in Aurora, IL. A haven for patients and families fighting cancer, Waterford Place is an institution that our very own Thomas Barkauskas worked with extensively. We have the pleasure of talking to Omar Ramos on this episode, the Program Development and Operations Manager, about his journey to this special place and what it does for families in need.
Omar has the unique and special journey of starting at Rush Copley Hospital at the age of 16. After working in food service and then the financial aid department, he now has the pleasure of focusing on the good work of helping these families. We discuss his journey, our own family's history with cancer, and what all of these resources mean to the community.
See here for a list of resources mentioned in today's episode:

It's Therapy with my Mom and another person from Ryan's world! This week we have the pleasure of talking to Jennifer Menendez, Manager of The Post climbing gym, Ryan's second home, and his part-time job. Jennifer has been working in and managing gyms for years and has developed her leadership methods based on her life experience and years of trial and error.
Fresh off of a summit on gym leadership, Jennifer has some opinions on how she can better lead her team and the culture that she wants to foster. We get into the pressures that come with being the boss and communication styles that might need to be adjusted based on how others are receiving our messages.

In this episode, Ryan tries to get himself a diagnosis for ADD!
We have the incredibly intelligent Dr. Brandi Boan with us today, talking about what it means to be a neuropsychologist and the kind of work and tests that she conducts. Brandi also discusses the unique perspective of being a prescribing psychologist, one of less than 20 in her state!
We discuss neurological conditions such as dementia and how we try to treat it, and Ryan asks for a professional opinion on if he ever should have gotten labeled with Attention Deficit Disorder. It's a super educational episode and we hope you enjoy it!

It's our 50th episode! Thank you all for being a part of that journey. Today we don't have any extra guests besides our amazing co-host Julee who talks about personal and practical perspectives on grief and loss.
Mother of the show and professional counselor of many years, Julee has personally experienced loss in so many ways and wields this now as her power to help others cope with their pain. We cover the stages of grief, how people try to make meaning out of their losses, and the many ways we can find ourselves bracing and coping with the intensity of it all.

Stuck in a pattern you can't help but repeat? If you can bring your awareness to it, perhaps then you would have the choice in doing it!
Gestalt therapy is about "shape," "form," and "patterns." A licensed Gestalt Psychotherapist like Melissa Bennett-Heinz could be the one to help you piece it all together! Today we discuss the origins and method of Gestalt therapy, and how Melissa took a winding path from playing the oboe to practicing this style of therapy.
Settle in and open your mind to yet another great discussion with Ryan, Julee, and this week's guest!

The old ways of raising our kids can be really focused on reacting to their behavior, and not truly supporting what their nervous systems need! Thankfully, we have Jenifer Freedy on the show to help us understand the Neuroscience of Parenting and secure attachment!
Jenifer is a brilliant psychotherapist with the knowledge and intention of helping us support our nervous systems. With Jen's help, we get into some of the issues we see in family disconnection nowadays, and how we can better support ourselves and our children. It might take some effort to also care for ourselves while we try to raise our little ones, but thankfully all we need to do for today is to listen to this podcast and enjoy the discussion!

Is it time for you to get unstuck or resolve your trauma? Thankfully we have an amazing professional with us this week ready to talk about his own treatment method for helping patients do just that!
Michael Cortina is the founder of The Cortina Method, an approach based on neuroscience and brain optimization, which is, "getting the brain to respond to life, in the most enticing and optimal way possible." Michael developed this method after seeing frustratingly slow results through more traditional means, and now takes his style to patients and practitioners at large with a goal to touch one million lives!
We get a peak into Michael's history and some of the highlights of his method in this episode. If you are curious to learn more about TCM, we encourage you to look up Michael's website or reach out to him directly!
