There Will Be Books

This month, we headed back to the Flashman Papers, and read Royal Flash. A little softer around the edges, but still humorous and biting, Royal Flash is great addition to the Flashman Papers series. Peter compares the books to cereal, and Matt compares Flashman to Michael Scott. Plus, we create a new idea, "Flashmaning." Listen to find out what that means, and more. Enjoy!

Enjoy!

This week we're discussing the comedy classic, A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. We discuss the back story to the novel, why Matt loves this novel, and also why Peter was a little disappointed. And of course we go on tangents about health, personality types, and much more. Enjoy!

We are revisiting a classic this week. "The Catcher in the Rye." Both of us haven't read this book for well over a decade, and we discuss what's changed for us about the novel, maybe things we didn't notice the first time. We discuss Holden and all his faults and traumas. Enjoy this conversation about a much discussed and beloved American novel, and let us know your thoughts on this book.

We read "The Wicked Pavilion" by Dawn Powell and what is there to say other than this book is fantastic! We delve into this little known classic of American Literature and discuss why it's such a successful, funny, and perceptive novel. We're hopeful more readers will pick up this great book and give it a read. Enjoy!

On this episode, we discuss the brilliant and unsettling thriller "The Talented Mr Ripley." So much to discuss and unpack, from theories about why people turn bad, to how the book talks about class, we had a good time grappling with Tom Ripley. We end by talking about some adaptations, and revisit Matt Damon's performance. Enjoy!
