Hello and welcome to episode 56! Today I have the pleasure to speak with Garik Himebaugh founder of the blog and marketplace Eco-Stylist. Here you can find the most ethical clothing brands for men. Now, I was curious to talk with Garik, being a man myself, I can see the landscape of sustainable fashion being driven, and rightly so, mostly by women. In my opinion it must be more men out there like me, that care about the planet and other living beings and humanity in general. But the thing is, it seems that they are not so visible online, or are they?

In this conversation I pick Garik’s brain to find out his opinion on how he started his blog and marketplace, what is his criteria to choose brands to collab with, how men can be more aware of new brands and ways to look stylish and cool, and at the same time still be masculine and help change the face of fashion for better, and much more.

My today's guest is Orsola de Castro, Founder and Creative Director of Fashion Revolution, the world’s biggest fashion activism movement. Fashion Revolution is intent on giving garment workers a voice and making the fashion industry accountable. It’s a spearhead in an industry that is so inefficient that it is currently cheaper to over produce than it is to produce less.  Fashion Revolution is the brainchild of Orsola and Carry Somers, who met as fashion designers. Orsola was founder of Esthetica, the British Fashion Council’s sustainable fashion area at London Fashion week, which ran between 2006-2014. The original idea for Fashion Revolution came just after the Rana Plaza disaster, the 2013 collapse of a complex of clothes factories in Bangladesh, which killed 1,138 people and left many with life-changing injuries. Picking one of them, Orsola is the spearhead, the one sharing and inviting people to be part of this important movement that is changing the fashion industry landscape.Before I continue, I have to make a statement that this episode suffered technical issues at the beginning of the recording, therefore, causing the loss of the first part of the conversation with Orsola. I will do my best to break down what we talked about next:After talking about herself and the beginning of the movement as I explained earlier, Orsola went on to explain how big brands have a major role in the fashion landscape. It is not just the consumers role in choosing and demanding better clothes, working conditions, and so forth. It needs to be a major effort to bring transparency to the table in order for people to make better decisions when they buy either clothes or accessories. As I see it, we need a model of educating people in the role of citizens and consumers to who and what we buying from. PROJECTO MATILHA é um projecto artístico, de Ricardo Romero, que pretende consciencializar as sociedades, aliando a arte urbana a causas como essencialmente, com os direitos humanos e dos animais.Assume uma linguagem estética, técnicas e uma certa atitude provocadora e controversa, escolhendo a rua como o cenário por excelência para as suas obras, respeitando e valorizando assim as raízes que tem no graffiti. Para Ricardo Romero, o “Projecto Matilha” “acaba por ser uma forma de estar na vida”. O artista começou por pintar desde cedo e “inconscientemente” percebeu que quase sempre pintava figuras de animais.
