They Might Become Giants episodes

  • Canberra Crazies

Brandon and Alex toast to the crazy win over the Hawks in our home away from home, Canberra (the heart rates are still racing).

Alex highlights Jack Buckley's incredible chase down tackle, leading to the extraordinary story of resilience, that has shaped Buckley's career so far.

Alex then explains the story of the now defunct Fitzroy Football Club in preparation for upcoming match against the form team of the competition The Brisbane (Fitzroy) Lions.

There's also trivia, emails and the announcement of another watch party, this time at The Guildford Hotel, in Guildford. Catch us there for your chance to win two tickets to the grand final as well as merch and other prizes!

Get out to Guildford to support the Giants as we push towards one of the most closely contested finals series in recent memory.

  • Top Eight Logjam & The Legend of Lethal Leigh

This week the boys celebrate the nail biting victory over the Melbourne Demons, very much keeping the Giant's finals aspirations alive.

The Giants return to their home away from home to play the form team of the competition, The Hawthorn Hawks (May-blooms). To mark the occasion Alex regales the legend of Hawthorn superstar, Hall of Famer and "player of the 20th century", Lethal Leigh Matthews.

While this week is a home game, it is taking place in Canberra so we will be holding a special home game watch party at The Friend in Hand Hotel in Glebe this Sunday at 1:10pm.

Join us for your chance to win two grand final tickets as well flights and accommodation!

  • The Oldest Club in the Land

The boys celebrate the victory over the Gold Coast Suns, while Alex marvels at Harvey Thomas's unheralded (and unlikely) rise towards the rising star.

Alex then dives deep into the history of the oldest club in the land - the Melbourne Demons. From repeat triple premierships, to years in the wilderness and accusations of tanking, this club is as old as the sport itself, and shares a history just as rich.

The guys will be attending The Governor Hotel in Macquarie Park for this weekend's watch party.

Be there; 7:30pm Saturday 27th of July to support the mighty Giants as we head towards the business end of the season!

  • The Winner Takes It All

Brandon and Alex recorded this episode straight after the watch party at The Crossroads Hotel in Casula, so it's a little spicy.

The boys celebrate the much needed win over Richmond and discuss how the final stanza of season 2024 is poised to be a ripper. The race for finals is as close as it's ever been, with hardly anything separating second to fourteenth on the ladder. The Giants have to keep winning to stay in the hunt.

Alex then educates Brandon about "the Dimmer Switch" as the Giants prepare to take on their fellow expansion club cousins; The Gold Coast Suns.

The guys also receive some constructive criticism in an email, tune in to see how they respond!

  • The Great Fightback is On

The boys celebrate the epic fightback win over Carlton and wonder if this is a new beginning, or a false dawn?

Alex walks Brandon through the storied history of the Richmond Tigers and Brandon rates their theme song (quite highly).

This week the boys are heading to The Crossroads Hotel in Casula for the watch party against the Tigers. Head on down to go into the draw to win an epic 2 Grand Final tickets, flights an accommodation. There will also be a raffle for Giants merch as well as an Adam Kennedy jumper.

See you all at the crossroads in Casula!

  • The Legend of Ron Barassi

The boys get together to lament the tough loss to the Crows but also celebrate the great vibe at The Ashfield Hotel on the weekend. They analyze the loss as well as Doug Ray Scott's underrated career (it makes sense) and look for ways to improve as our spot in the finals is now far from assured.

As The Giants are playing Carlton again, Alex walks Brandon through ex-Carlton (and many others) legend Ron Barassi's story and the many ways he changed the history of our great game.

  • Blood Stained Angels Part 2

The boys celebrate turning off the power at Engie Stadium with the Giants hard earned victory over Port. However, now the fated rivals and seemingly invincible Swans await a rematch, though this time at the home of the Giants.

Alex explains the concept of tagging to Brandon and then goes through the rich history of Sydney derbies. The guys receive an email seemingly from "inside footy" and Brandon encourages all Giants fans to make the pilgrimage to Engie to help cheer on the Giants in the face of their biggest test of the year.

Brandon and Producer Sam will be at Engie stadium this Saturday to giveaway another jersey courtesy of Sports Gear Australia. Come along; find Brandon in person at the game and be the first to speak the magic phrase from this podcast to win a Shane Mumford player's jumper on the spot.

Alex and Brandon talk through the HOT TOPICS of the week including their adventure to watch the Newtown Breakaways at Henson Park. Alex gives Brandon the task of proclaiming "who is good" (apart from Sydney) as well as discussing Harley Reid's suspension (producer Sam is not happy).

With the bye finally behind us the Hawthorn Mayblooms get the historical treatment and human sacrifice is involved... Makes sense - trust us. The boys then preview their upcoming 'Watch Party' at the Nags Head Hotel in Glebe on Saturday.

About They Might Become Giants

From the publisher's feed

Alex Williams is a massive fan and ambassador for the GWS GIANTS. His NRL loving mate Brandon McClelland is a sports fanatic, born in Western Sydney and knows nothing about the AFL. Taking his GIANTS ambassadorial duties far too seriously, Alex has now bullied his actor mate Brandon to do a podcast about their journey to discover the best pubs and eateries in Western Sydney to watch away AFL games. With episodes dropping every Wednesday, we see the AFL through a new lens as Brandon questions the culture and obscurities of the game. This isn’t a pod where we just sit and chat through the weekly match ups, it’s built around social activities and engaging with our friends and audience. Let the search for the best ‘Away Venues’ in Western Sydney begin!
