They Might Become Giants

Brandon is in Melbourne shooting a film and unfortunately we had a rather catastrophic technical issue trying to record remotely. As a result Producer Sam joins Alex in Brandon's stead for a last minute recording.

Sam and Alex review the loss to Adelaide in the W and then analyse how they think both the Giants and Eagles have fared during the trade period (spoiler, Producer Sam is not happy).

Join us on Saturday October 26th at The Henson Park Hotel for our last TMBG watch party/get together. We're putting together a trivia event with questions from the various history segments of our podcast episodes this season. Come on down for one last hurrah for 2024 and then we'll head over the road to watch the final Giants home game of the year.

The boys analyse the loss to Melbourne and preview the upcoming match against St Kilda. Alex then asks Brandon to act as the sorting hat and categorise all the AFL clubs into Harry Potter houses and does a surprisingly accurate job.

After last week's story of the extraordinary Daisy Pearce, Alex tells Brandon the legend of Erin Phillips.

Brandon has returned from his tropical island sojourn so he and Alex indulge in some schadenfreude over the Swans dismal showing in the Grand Final.

The boys went down to Henson Park to watch the Giants vs the Eagles in the W, which left Producer Sam very happy. Alex then leads Brandon through the incredible story of the current West Coast W coach, Daisy Pearce.

Brandon is having a well earned rest after finishing up his play so Alex is joined by Mary K from Ladies Who League, an absolute pioneer of women's sport in Australia.

Alex and Mary talk about the AFLW and how Mary came to support the Giants. They also go through yet another Sydney derby loss and Mary gives Alex a history of the NRLW.

Also there's some other game of football happening this weekend...

The boys commiserate the devastating straight sets exit and the end of the Giants 2024 campaign.

Alex also reads some excerpts from the extraordinary book Never Surrender by Georgina Hibberd who was given unprecedented access to the players and Club during their 2020 season. The book provides the "raw and uncompromising story not just of the Greater Western Sydney Giants, but of the AFL Women's competition in Australia."

The guys then read some listener emails and gather their thoughts for next year.\

After the devastating loss against Sydney in the first qualifying final, The Giants live to fight another day against last year's Grand Finalist Brisbane at Engie Stadium.

The boys analyze the extraordinary game and look towards what they hope will be another riveting contest at Engie on Saturday night.

In honor of the Giants latest AFLW Irish recruit Eilish O'Dowd, Alex gives Brandon the run down on the absolute legend that is Cora Staunton. Her career is so extraordinary that is has to be listened to, to be believed.

Alex may well be in the South West of WA for work and while it will stop him from attending the game on Saturday, it sure as hell won't stop him recording this podcast!

Brandon and Alex get excited about the prospect of knocking Sydney down a peg on their home turf and keeping our perfect record in finals against them in tact.

Alex continues regaling the rich history of the AFLW and somehow Producer Sam (a West Coast supporter of all things) is the only member of the trio attending the qualifying final. The world works in mysterious ways.

Huge congratulations to Craig for winning the TMBG Watch Party grand prize of two tickets the grand final, flights and accommodation. Thanks so much to everyone who attended our watch parties this year, we had a blast hosting them.

The Giants may have lost their first game in seven weeks, but they've made the top four, which means we're going into the finals with a double chance!

In a poetic turn of events for Brandon's first season as a fan, The Giants will take on their bitter cross town rivals the Blood Stained Angels in a qualifying final in a couple of weeks time.

Given their is a bye between now and then and the AFLW begins this weekend; Alex takes the chance to walk Brandon through the rich history of women's football in Australia.

They guys then read out some excellent emails (one all the way from Devon) and review what has been an extraordinary season of football.

The purple hoard have been vanquished and now it's time for The Giants to turn their attention to one of their greatest rivals, the Western Bulldogs down in Ballarat to bring this incredible season to a close.

Alex and Brandon go through the tense win over Freo and admire the incredible redemption story of Jesse Hogan as well as Producer Sam's favorite Giant, Brent Daniels.

The Giants have a chance to knock their staunch rivals out of the finals race and potentially secure a top 2 finish. There's everything to play for as the most gripping season in recent memory comes to a close, and an irresistible finals series awaits.

Join us for our final in-season watch party at the Hudson Hotel in Seven Hills. The theme is "Giants Formal" so throw your mind's back to year 12 and dress in your Sunday best (or worst) but don't forget to include a splash of orange.

This week, in anticipation of the upcoming clash, Alex and Brandon are joined by ex-host of the Ruck Rover Podcast and Freo diehard Kristian Barron.

The guys analyze the epic win over premiership favorites Brisbane, IN Brisbane no less, which leads Brandon to make a bold prediction.

Alex then cedes the mic to Kristian to tell the history of the Fremantle Football Club, which includes it's various ups and (many) downs. Levi Strauss is somehow involved as well as some of the craziest trades in AFL memory.

Tune in to hear more!
