In this very special episode of The Think Courageously Podcast, I welcome Melinda Kunst to the show.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM). This event was launched nationwide in October 1987 as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness for those issues. Over the past 30+ years, much progress has been made to support domestic violence victims and survivors, to hold abusers accountable, and to create and update legislation to further those goals.
Melinda and I share something very powerful...we are both survivors of Domestic Violence.
This is not a story anyone tells. And for clarification, my story involves a man that I was briefly married to and is now deceased.
It’s a story that I don’t talk about much because there is so much shame and self-judgement for those of us who have experienced this issue.
Having a coffee with a treasured friend who has also experienced domestic violence felt right. And Melinda shares her powerful story with us. And, she share information about the community she has built https://www.facebook.com/hopewhentherewasnone.
Together, we talk about:
- Trusting our intuition
- Bargaining
- The power of fear
- And the importance of self-care
