  • TOTLB 402 Moon Knight Issue 13

Who doesn’t love the iteration of Daredevil that we have currently? And I know that most people have been super into the Moon Knight show that we’re getting from Marvel as well. What most people don’t know, especially if you don’t read the comic books, is that they’ve crossed paths in the past. Today we’re delving back into comic books where we discuss the 13th issue of Moon Knight.

“Both out on parole, cellmates Jester and Ace Taggert have teamed up to get revenge those who wronged them. Jester wants to target James Martin, the director he blames for the end of his acting career, and Taggert has vowed to kill Moon Knight for putting him away.”

It’s one issue, of a long Moon Knight series, but it really does start and finish the story within that one issue. Moon Knight and Daredevil end up having to team up, in order to stop two villains who have just been released from prison. The story is written by Doug Moench and drawn by Bill Sienkiewicz! Go give it a read, and see what you all think of this first crossover by these two super heroes!

  • TOTLB 401 Daredevil 2003

The year was 2003 and we got one of our first looks at the early Marvel universe. Yes, there were some earlier, and some better versions of the Marvel universe, but this movie is SO close to Iron Man, the movie that started it all. We are of course talking about the 2003 film, Daredevil!

“Attorney Matt Murdock (Ben Affleck) is blind, but his other four senses function with superhuman sharpness. By day, Murdock represents the downtrodden. At night, he is Daredevil, a masked vigilante, a relentless avenger of justice. When Wilson Fisk (Michael Clarke Duncan) hires Bullseye (Colin Farrell) to kill Daredevil, Murdock must rely on his own senses and search out the conspirators against justice — which may include his own girlfriend, Elektra (Jennifer Garner).”

Favreau is the father of the current MCU, and was involved in this film. We think maybe that, how bad this film was, inspired Favreau to put together a universe that he would be proud of, which is exactly what he did. This is an origin story for Daredevil, as well as Elektra, and features a huge cast. Was this movie made just because of its cast? Did they really think they put together a good film? What did you think of this 2003 movie?

  • TOTLB 400 ASM 101 and 102

Juan’s biggest comic book collection happens to be Amazing Spider-Man. Not sure why I chose this book to be the series that I wanted to collect, but I did, and it is one of the more successful series of anything that I collect. With only a handful of issues needed between issues 100-300 I can say that I’m a huge fan of Spider-Man. SO, it was fun revisiting ASM for today’s episode!! To tie into what is going on in the world of film, we chose to talk about Amazing Spider-Man 101 and 102, the introduction of Morbius!

“Synopsis for “A Monster Called Morbius!” Peter Parker has grown four extra arms. He realizes that it’s because of the potion he created and took to remove his spider powers so that he could stop being Spider-Man and live a normal life and settle down with Gwen Stacy.”

These two books were from a time when comic books seemed to be a little more simple, so the answers to the books questions were very forced, and easily had. BUT, I think that it was ok during this time. Spider-Man is trying to deal with his powers, and wants them to go away so he can live a simple life. Something goes wrong, and he makes himself grow extra arms. Morbius is introduced who is trying to figure out a cure for his own life ending disease, and chaos ensues. You should definitely take a look back at these two issues, they’re worth the read!

  • TOTLB 399 Red Rain

We promised that we were going to keep going back to our roots, and we’re keeping to that promise!! The comic book that we’re going to be talking about this week is a VS title for the ages!! We’re talking about a Batman Elseworlds story where Batman clashes with the baddest vampire around, Dracula. We’re talking about Batman & Dracula: Red Rain!

“Batman investigates a series of murders of homeless people of Gotham City whose throats have been slashed. He discovers that a family of vampires led by Count Dracula are the culprits behind the murders. A rogue vampire, Tanya, chooses to help Batman.”

Red Rain is the first book in a trilogy run of Batman vampire stories. Red Rain was written by Doug Moench, penciled by Kelley Jones, and inked by Malcom Jones III. According to Diamond Comics, Red Rain was the fourth most ordered graphic novel of 1991, so you know that this had a lot of hype surrounding it’s release! Even if you don’t read the rest of the trilogy, Red Rain is worth the read, especially for the work done by Jones!

  • TOTLB 398 From

It’s time to go back to some of our horror roots!! There is not a TON of vampire content out there right now, as I think that space might be dominated by zombies at the moment. Well today we’re visiting the vampire series, coming from Epix, From!

“Unravel the mystery of a city in middle U.S.A that imprisons everyone who enters. As the residents struggle to maintain a sense of normalcy and seek a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest.”

Listen, there are definitely some things from this series that don’t make the most of sense right now. Like where is all of the food coming from? We know that they aren’t growing ALL of the food. It’s presumed that the town has been here for a while, so why aren’t the buildings vampire proof at this point? Why do the homes still have windows, and why are kids still inviting the damn things into their homes? BUT, the vampires are a bit different, stylistically, and the series is still worth the watch for sure! Find out what happens when a torn family is about to go through a divorce, and they find themselves trapped in some kind of loop, where they are not able to escape this monster ridden town!

  • TOTLB 397 Interview with the Vampire

Do you need a lesson in acting with a little bit of supernatural thrown in? Well today we have that exact movie for you to watch, and hear our thoughts about! We’re going back to 1994, almost thirty years ago, in order to revisit a few high profile actors in Interview with the Vampire!

“Born as an 18th-century lord, Louis is now a bicentennial vampire, telling his story to an eager biographer. Suicidal after the death of his family, he meets Lestat, a vampire who persuades him to choose immortality over death and become his companion. Eventually, gentle Louis resolves to leave his violent maker, but Lestat guilts him into staying by turning a young girl — whose addition to the “family” breeds even more conflict.”

With Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Kirsten Dunst, Christian Slater, and more, how do you go wrong? Now, keep in mind that this movie is definitely not the action packed vampire movie that you might be used to at this point in our lives, it is still a lesson in how to be tame with the supernatural and STILL make a good movie! Go watch the movie and see if you agree, and better yet, go read the books that this movie was based off of, The Vampire Chonicles!

  • TOTLB 396 Moon Knight

Well I’m not sure what tier superhero’s that we’ve delved into, but we are diving deeper and deeper into the Marvel comic book lore! Maybe just two years ago nobody would have thought that we would be getting a Moon Knight series, and here we are!! We’re talking about the Disney+ series, Moon Knight!!

“Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector.”

At the time of this recording, the second episode had JUST released. We were mostly covering the show based off of the first episode only, with a tiny bit of talk of the second episode, and some discussion about where the future of the series will take us! This series is one of the shortest that Marvel will release, with only 6 episodes. Also, now, Marvel has come out and said that this will also be a limited series, meaning that there is not likely to be a season 2! What do you think of the series so far, at this point? Thoughts on Moon Knight as a character? Let us know!

  • TOTLB 395 Halo

Do you remember all the way back to 2001, when the original Halo came out for the Xbox? Since that point there has been almost 18 different video games/expansions that have come out to make this world even bigger! This did not include making the jump to the small screen, until now! Today’s episode is all about the Paramount+ series, Halo!

“Halo is set to follow “an epic 26th-century conflict between humanity and an alien threat known as the Covenant. Halo will weave deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a richly imagined vision of the future.”

Halo sets itself up as a large world, where many different civilizations are under the umbrella of the United Nations Space Command. The UNSC is also embattled in a war with the Covenant! The best asset that the UNSC has now, is Master Chief. On a mission Master Chief comes in contact with an ancient ruin of some sort that the Covenant is after, and the hold that the UNSC has on him starts to break, and all hell ensues! Check out our thoughts on the first few episodes, and go give it a watch!

  • TOTLB 394 Alien Comic Book

Dark Horse Comic Books was founded by Mike Richardson in 1986!! Dark Horse one of the more recognizable comic book creators in the world today, of course maybe only less recognizable by the GIANT two brands!! In 1988, still riding the wave of the the super successful movie Aliens, came along a comic book to help keep moving Dark Horse forward!

“Aliens is a line of several comic books set in the fictional universe of the Alien films published by Dark Horse Comics from 1988 forward. The stories often feature the company Weyland-Yutani and the United States Colonial Marines. Originally intended as a sequel to James Cameron‘s 1986 film Aliens, the first mini-series features the characters of Rebecca “Newt” Jorden and Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Later series also included the further adventures of Ellen Ripley, with other stories being unique to the Alien universe and are often used to explore other aspects of the species, such as their sociology and biology, and also tying into Dark Horse Comics’ Predator and Aliens vs. Predator lines.”

This comic book is supposed to be a direct sequel to the movie, Aliens, and is the first “original” Alien comic book that was created. It’s sometimes known as Aliens: Outbreak, and is written by Mark Verheiden, and drawn by Mark A. Nelson! This series follows Rebecca “Newt” Jordan, and Corporal Dwayne Hicks from the original Aliens movie! They are trying to find the Alien homeworld, and as expected, much chaos ensues!! The comic books are definitely worth the read, but are worth a pretty penny right now, so you should definitely start by finding them online!!

  • TOTLB 393 Space Sweepers

We took a chance on a Netflix movie that we had never heard of, to talk about for a podcast episode, because sometimes you just have to take chances with your media! For today’s episode we are talking about the 2021 Netflix film, Space Sweepers! It is directed by Jo Sung-Hee!

“After snatching a crashed space shuttle in the latest debris chase, Spaceship Victory’s crew members find a 7-year-old girl inside. They realise that she’s the humanlike robot wanted by UTS Space Guards, and decide to demand a ransom in exchange.”

This movie is a pretty cool and wild ride!! It’s a bunch of misfits who are on a team together, trying to stop at nothing to make money. It feels like they’re wandering aimlessly down a path of getting in trouble just to make a quick buck, and aren’t very good at relationships! When they come across a little girl who is being painted as a weapon of mass destruction, they have to make a decision to cast her aside, or to make her a part of their crazy family!
