Thinking Outside The Long Box

Here we are, two seasons deep into a very fun and interesting series!! We're visiting the world of The Umbrella Academy!! Created, originally, from a comic book, and adapted into a series by Netflix.

The Umbrella Academy, is a group of misfits, who were adopted by their maybe/maybe not, alien father. He trained them to be able to use their awesome super hero abilities, and trained them to be more of a team, than a family. Season one, and season two follow a very similar plotline of one of the family, possibly destroying the planet. But, in season two, aside from that plotline, now they've all traveled to the past, with the date of the apocalypses moving forward. The season is all about Number 5 trying to bring the family together, while trying to heal the family and get them back to their original timeline!

There are MANY Arnold Schwarzenegger quotes that are always quoted. Well, this episode is where one of those awesome quotes got it's origin story! So, hopefully you'll "get to the chopper" and enjoy us going back in time for our pop culture classic episode, about, Predator!

For it's time, this movie had an amazing cast! You'll watch familiar names like Arnold of course, but also Car Weathers, Jesse Ventura, and Bill Duke! It's all about a special ops team, lead by Arnold's character Dutch. They're told that it's an extraction job, to rescue a foreign cabinet minister. Of course, while that is going on, an alien monster has arrived on Earth, looking for a fight. The special ops team is picked off, one by one, until it's only Dutch, and the Predator!

What do you do when there is a serial killer, known for the area in which he kills people? You AVOID that area, duh!!! Well, for this movie, we're talking about the Shudder movie, Random Acts of Violence.

Released in 2019 in Canada, and on Shudder in 2020, in the United States, it's a modern day slasher movie. In the movie, Todd & Ezra, have made a living based off of a serial murderer named Slasherman, who was based of a real "in universe" serial killer. For the final issue, they've planned to go to the town in which these murders took place. While they're in town, the murders start happening once more. In a very meta twist, the ending brings a close to a comic book tied murder spree!!

It's been almost thirty years since we last saw Bill & Ted grace us with their hilarious time traveling antics! We think that it was well worth the wait, as Keanu Reeves & Alex Winter slip into their Bill & Ted persona's for Face The Music, as if this movie took had taken place twenty five years ago!!

BUT, here we go again!! It's time for Bill & Ted to FINALLY write and perform the song, that will untie the galaxy!! Only, they don't know what the song is, and don't think that they can make it happen in time to save everyone!! So, they jump into the future(s) in order to try and take the song from their future selves! Of course, this leads us to many funny encounters with future possible versions, include a hilarious jail scene! PLUS, their daughters, Theadora "Thea" Preston & Wilhelmina "Billie" Logan do their best to find the best band assembled from musicians from the past, in order to help their fathers!!

It's that time of the week again, to visit something from our distant, sometimes much more distant past! For this one, we are traveling all the way back to the YEAR 2000!! It was a British comedy, and a bit of a different type of film than we are used to seeing from Guy Ritchie!

Of course, we're talking about the movie with a stacked cast, Snatch. When I say stacked, I mean it, as it stars; Jason Stathom, Brad Pitt, Lennie James, Dennis Farina, Vinnie Jones, Benicio Del Toro, and MORE! This movie is the story of two two different plots! One of the plots has to do with the search for a stolen diamond, and the other plot has to do a small time boxing promoter under the thumb of a gangster! This is one of those strange movies, that is just too funny, that you might not notice it's silliness! Make sure you take the time, to take a look back!

Are you a fan of HP Lovecraft? It seems like there are a good amount of movies/series, that are made based off of his ideas, or his stories. For this episode, we are indeed looking at something Lovecraft, in the HBO MAX series, Lovecraft Country.

Lovecraft Country is based upon a novel of the same day, with the series being developed by Misha Green. It tells the story of a young black man in the 1950's, who is traveling across the United States in order to find his missing father. Of course, this wouldn't be an HP Lovecraft story, without monsters, and such! So they come, and they almost come out of nowhere! With only a select amount of episodes released, at the time of this recording, listen to what we've thought about the show so far.

This episode starts with a little bit of chaos!! Gabe went out of state, and Juan's kids started school so we opted to have a social distant set of episodes!! That is much easier until we come to the live episode, which this was! Cam's weren't working, we started a new trial, it was a fury of craziness, in order to get us all together again!!

SO, as you all know, at the end of our recording sessions, we always do a live session. During the live sessions, we turn to you, the listener in order to try and give us some topics to speak about! This episode is no different, and we even got a listener from Baltimore to chime in!! Hopefully you all will join us in the future!!

The first nightmare occurred in 1984! This spawned many sequels, some successful and some less successful. PLUS a reboot in 2010! For this episode, we are visiting the original A Nightmare on Elm Street VS it's 2010 reboot of the franchise (which is now dead). PLUS we talk about the differences in the portrayal of Freddy Krueger. In the original 84 version, Freddy was portrayed by Robert Englund, and in the 2010 version, Freddy was portrayed by Jackie Earle Haley!

From the story changes in Freddy's background, to the visual effects themselves, we talk about it all. Do you prefer your old Freddy or the new Freddy Krueger? Do you like his new background, or do you prefer your Freddy to just be a murderer? Does his face look more realistic, or just more goofy in the reboot? Let us know what you think, and listen to the episode, in order to hear what we thought about these different versions of the same universe!

What dimension are we in? Are we actually time traveling? Did an airplane engine fall into your house? You need to carve out about six hours, in order to really figure out what is going on, in our latest pop culture classic!! For this episode, we're talking about the Gyllenhaal filled movie, Donnie Darko!!

Chosen by out Patreon supporter Doyle, we go back to 2001 in order to take a look at a super confusing movie! What did you think of the mind trip, that is Donnie Darko!? If you're not quite sure what is going on, you're not in bad company. I think 3/4's of us were confused, BUT it gets a strong rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and is packed with a good amount of great actors!! Let us know what you think about this strange movie!
