  • Where is the Supreme Court Going (American Issues Take Two)

How Concerned Should we be.  The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tim Apicella.  The guests are Stephanie Dalton and Avi Soifer.

Our panel will discuss the crisis of confidence now facing the Supreme Court; is this unprecedented in American history; what did the justices do or not do to get here; are they out of touch with the country; what did Donald Trump, Joe Biden, the GOP and the U.S. Senate do to get here; how are these problems accentuated or revealed by recent events, i.e., the failure of Clarence Thomas to recuse himself and the leaked opinion of the overturn of Roe v. Wade; how will they be ameliorated, if at all, by the ascendancy of Ketanji Brown Jackson; where does the court seem to be going and for how long; what effect does this have on the other branches of government; what effect will it have on the country; where do our civil rights and liberties seem to be going and when; what can the court, Joe Biden and Congress do, if so inclined, to reform or restore some degree of confidence in the court.

  • Designing a Road-User Funding System (Hawaii: State Of Clean Energy)

Roads Are NOT Free - Everyone Needs to Pay.  The host for this show is Mitch Ewan.  The guest is Dallas Ige.

In the US, the fuel tax is the primary source of transportation funding used to build and maintain our roadways. However, it will no longer be a reliable source of funding as it has not kept up with inflation and improved fuel economy, so the gap between needs and revenue continues to widen. As a result, a wide range of alternative revenue systems were explored where a road user charge system based on miles driven emerged as the consensus choice of the future. Since most people are not aware of the current funding problem, nor do they understand how a road user charge system would function, this show explores the concept of a road user charge system, reviews the intended policy goals, identifies major limitations, addresses social equity, and concludes with recommendations to gain public acceptance.

  • Roe v. Wade and Abortion in the Americas (Latin American Directions)

Success and Challenges to Women Rights.  The host for this show is Nicolás Süssmann Herrán.  The guest is Vanessa Daza Castillo.

Abortion is one of the most controversial issues in America. Recently there has been a wave of legal advances protecting women's rights to choose in Latin America including Chile, Mexico, and more recently Colombia. Nonetheless, those advances are not warranted and possibilities of overturning them are just around the corner such as the recent leak of the US Supreme Court decision about Roe v. Wade. Host Nicolas Sussmann and Vanessa Daza discuss these situations and their impact on the region.

  • Fighting COVID with Education, Creativity (Coronavirus and Our Mental Health)

Turning Negative Thinking into Positive.  The host for this show is Ken Burtness.  The guest is Gary Sudin.

Discussion starts with the individual. School lectures and required readings are only beginning steps. These must be followed by interest. Joseph Campbell told people to "Follow their bliss." Students need to follow their interest. Learning about what they are interested in leads to creativity. Creativity and experience help break down closed doors. Coronavirus has shut many doors in people's lives. It has separated people from friends and loved ones, from their jobs, from their social life. For many it has shut the door of hope, hope for the future. Education, interest, and creativity are keys to opening that door.

  • Trump's Influence in 2022, 2024 Elections (American Issues Take One)

He Keeps Hanging on.  The host for this show is Tim Apicella.  The guests are Jay Fidell and Chuck Crumpton.

Trump has left his indelible fingerprints on the GOP and our republic. The main stain left was an assault to our democratic election system. Reports from the January 6 House Select Committee leave little doubt of Trump's and his sycophants--John Eastman, Mark Meadows, Rudy Giuliani, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, etc.--role in an attempted disruption of the national election process, and a mob attack upon the Capital. The fallout of the 1/6 attack: looked like it was lights out for Trump, as supported by M.McConnell, K.McCarthy, L.Graham. However, within days the weak knees of those three buckled and fell prostrate to the ground before Trump, declaring loyalty and how Trump would be the next GOP nominee for 2024. McConnell went so far to say the GOP will not have a formal platform; Trump will be the platform. So what continued influence on the GOP and primary candidates will Trump have? What will the nation look like if Trump is re-elected in 2024 and after?
