  • Will we Have an Article V Convention (Community Matters)

How Concerned Should we be About it.  The host for this show is Jay Fidell.  The guest is Viki Harrison.

Viki Harrison is Director of Constitutional Convention and Protecting Dissent Programs of Common Cause, and will help us understand what is going on vis-a-vis the right-wing plan to adopt a national Article V Convention.  This a plan funded by millions of dollars in right-wing dark money from the likes of the Kochs and Mercers. Their endgame is to give megadonors and corporations free rein to radically reshape our Constitution, against the will of the people, by writing far-right policy goals directly into the Constitution, while gutting rights like free speech, the right to protest, and the right to privacy. Common Cause vigorously opposes the far- right plan do to this.

After two years when the restrictions were finally loosened, many rushed out to celebrate. But others found it difficult to step out into the light from their dark pandemic cave. Staying inside felt safe. Stepping outside felt dangerous, mental and physical anxiety surged, people questioned their abilities to cope, became fearful. A door had closed and been locked. How does a person find the key and the courage to open the door and reconnect to their previous, positive self?

  • Imagine North Korea - a Practical Vision (Figments: The Power of Imagination)

Getting past Conventional Wisdom.  The host for this show is Dan 'Fig' Leaf.

Host Dan 'Fig' Leaf's 2017 essay, 'An urgently practical approach to the Korean Peninsula,' won the Oslo Forum's first ever Peacewriter Prize. While policy makers have tinkered with some of his suggestions, there has been no real progress towards lasting peace and 2022 was North Korea's biggest year ever testing ballistic missiles. June 2023 marks 70 years since the Armistice was signed ended fighting during the Korean War. Seven decades of not peace and not prosperity (at least for North Korea).

Fig does not see it as a policy problem, rather a lack of vision. Strategic patience and maximum pressure were intended to maintain peace and eventually improve human rights in the DPRK. Both have failed. Agreed Framework? Failed. Six party talks? Failed. Seven decades of failure have led a region on the brink with potential nuclear consequences. The risk of war has been accompanied by a descent into hell for the common North Korean. The status quo is not just unacceptable, it is horrifying.
