    90 Seconds Before Midnight: Closest Ever.  The host for this show is Joshua Cooper.  The guests are Robert Forsyth, Alyn Ware, Ivan Siluianov and Michaela Sørensen.

  • Short-term Rentals on Hawaii Island (Hawaii Together)

    Proposed Law Could Harm Farmers, Economy.  The host for this show is Keli'i Akina.  The guest is Joshua Montgomery.  


    Short-term rentals are controversial across the country. It’s no different in Hawaii County. Some members of the Hawaii County Council are proposing tighter regulations on hosted short-term rentals in the hopes that doing so will add to the county’s housing stock and reduce complaints.

    Hawaii island resident Josh Montgomery isn’t so sure these new regulations are a good idea. Montgomery operates the Guard Well Farm in Holualoa and coordinates the Ohana Aina Association, which promotes homestays, farmstays and short-term rentals. Montgomery says many Hawaii island residents rent out rooms in their homes to vacationers to help make ends meet.

    On today’s episode of 'Hawaii Together,' Keli'i Akina, president and CEO of the Grassroot Institute, talks with Montgomery about this issue. The pair discuss the reasoning behind the proposed law, how it might affect Hawaii isle residents, and how concerned citizens can make their voices heard.

  • Meredith McQuaid, International Educator (A Nation of Immigrants)

    A fourth generation descendant of immigrants, Meredith McQuaid received her B.A., M.A., and J.D. from the University of Minnesota. In 2007, she became the first person to hold the title of Associate Vice President and Dean of International Programs at the University.  There were many other 'firsts' in her tenure including creating the first positions in the country for directors of internationalizing the curriculum, and international health, safety, and compliance; and the first position dedicated to mental health in study abroad.
