  • Distributed Energy Resources - What's Next (Perspectives on Energy)

EV's with Solar for Greater Reliability.  The host for this show is Guillermo Sabatier.

Given the push towards electrification of the transportation industry, it is only a matter of time before we see utilities, car owners and automakers agree to a protocol for making those EVs available to support the grid.  Additionally, there is more to this development than just supplying watts to the grid.  Utilities seem to be encouraging and even incentivizing the installation of level 2 chargers for what can ultimately be the inclusion of these devices into their generation mix.

  • Climate Change and Other Disasters Affect History (History is Here to Help)

Including Bad Storms, Floods and Droughts.  The host for this show is Jay Fidell.  The guest is Peter Hoffenberg.

It goes beyond eruptions like Vesuvius and Krakatoa.  Yes, they have affected human history.  But to one degree or another, disasters always have an effect on human history.  These days, climate change is giving us a smorgasbord of disasters, from sea level rise to extreme weather, to adverse environmental changes in the air, the ocean and on the land.  And of course, this gives us wildfires, floods, droughts, extinctions, starvation, violence and famines. These environmental and often violent changes affect our water and food supply, a breakdown of our social structures, and forced migrations all over the world.  These changes are happening faster now and having an increasingly profound effect on humanity.  They are affecting and changing human history.  It is critically important that we appreciate the effects they have on humanity and our future.

  • Love-Hate Relationship with P3 (Talking Tax)

Public-Private Partnerships.  The hosts for this show are Jay Fidell and Tom Yamachika.    Our state has a love-hate relationship with public-private partnerships (P3).  P3s are where public (government) interests and funds partner with private companies to cooperate and share risks and benefits.  The most recent and visible example is our iconic Aloha Stadium.  This turn-around in the middle of the project is unfortunate.  But it is not the only instance of P3s getting sacked.  The debate about P3s seems to have many elements that are similar to the debate about privatizing some government services.  Would it be justifiable if P3 can provide those goods or services at lower cost to the taxpayers without an appreciable reduction in quality?  Would it be justifiable if the vendor is as transparent and accountable to the public as the government agency is or was?  If we think it is good for our State, what risk is there that in a few years the government leaders will change and pull out the rug?  The ThinkTech YouTube Playlist for this show is https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQpkwcNJny6lmEllOKP493URXssFT4N7G  Please visit our ThinkTech website at https://thinktechhawaii.com and see our Think Tech Advisories at https://thinktechadvisories.blogspot.com.

  • Will Trump's GOP Continue to Support Ukraine (American Issues Take Two)

Looking at his Disruptions, it Seems Unlikely.  The host for this show is Jay Fidell.  The guests are Stephanie Dalton, Jeff Portnoy and Chuck Crumpton.

So far, the Trump-GOP has voted to support Ukraine, but how long will that last if it takes Congress in November.  Our panel examines Trump's history regarding Ukraine in order to connect the dots on what will happen in January. Trump is still the cult leader of the party, so we need to take a look at Trump's attempts to corrupt Volodymyr Zelensky and the first impeachment, the Mueller investigation, James Comey, Steele Report, Trump's lies about his projects with Putin in Russia, his secret conversations with Putin, his strange remarks to Putin criticizing US intelligence agencies, his open admiration for Putin and other autocrats who support Putin, Trump's silence and lack of criticism about Putin's invasion of Ukraine, the Trump-Russian flags that appeared at the recent  CPAC conference, and Trump's compulsive need to criticize anything Joe Biden does in Ukraine and otherwise in advance of the mid-term elections.

  • Next Move USA, EU, to Counter Putin Threats (American Issues Take One)

Now it's Nuclear Threats and Sham Land Grab.  The hosts for this show are Tim Apicella and Jay Fidell.  The guest is Chuck Crumpton.

The USA and EU have been cautious not to accelerate the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Fighter planes, aggressive offensive weapons have been withheld from Ukraine with the claim that only defensive assistance has been given. This week Putin raised the stakes by conducting a sham vote to declare four regions of Ukraine as now part of Russia. With Putin's announcement, he declared the use of any and all means to protect Russia was not a bluff. All this bluster as his troops run in an all-out retreat from the very lands he just declared as new Russian territory. Obviously, they were in a frantic hurry and didn't have time to read Putin's victory memo. What new effective strategy should USA, EU and NATO now implement to counter Putin's new ploy? The panel examines this recent development.
