Throughout this series, we’ve been talking about building a life that matters, which is something we all want. But it brings up the question, what is a life that matters? We can’t open our Instagram feed, turn on our TV, or walk through the book store without being inundated by voices trying to convince us to invest our lives into this cause, product, lifestyle, success, experience, or relationship. Something in us gets it twisted. And we can point to the materialistic, consumeristic, self-focused culture and call it the problem. It perpetuates the problem, but it’s not the root of the problem. We are thirsty. We’re thirsty for approval, we’re thirsty for validation, we’re thirsty for affirmation, often looking for it from people we don’t even know. Bethany showed us this weekend that if we want to live life to our fullest potential and make a difference in the lives of others, it is only accomplished in this order: love God, love yourself, and love people.
