Reckless and nonchalant couple Nora (Alison Elliott) and Jim (Jared Harris) spend their time seeking out the next thrill at the bottom of every bottle. Whether it be narcotics or alcohol, any bottle within reach is sure to brighten their day, even with the custody of their 8-year-old son Jimmy (Jim Jr.) (Jeffrey Goldschrafe) they make no hesitation. With travel plans to return to Ireland and reunite with Nora's family, it becomes increasingly apparent that Nora is suffering from an unknown ailment causing frequent migraines and visions. When her Uncle Bill (Christopher Walken) introduces her to a 2000-year-old bog witch he has stored in their basement, she is sure he has lost his mind. Her migraines and visions increase and slowly their true purpose reveals itself.

Grief-ridden teen Leah is trying to find her place after a serious tragedy turned her life upside down. She relies on her circle of friends who all partake in the occult and black magick as a way of coping with their daily tensions. When the kettle in her home life boils over, she foolishly casts a spell calling upon the energy of Pyewacket to fulfill her sinister wish to end her problems indefinitely. Unbeknownst to Leah, someone is listening and is willing to carry out even her most horrible of desires.

Another treasure filmed right here in Ontario, Canadian director Adam Macdonald selected his cast perfectly with Nicole Munez starring as daughter Leah Reyes and our familiar friend 'Mrs. Reyes' from The Walking Dead, Laurie Holden (TWD: Andrea.) Together they create the perfect atmosphere of a dysfunctional family while engaging in a realistic palette of emotions, never letting up the heavy tone for long.

Jen and I are certain with the accuracy of the ritual in the film that Adam Macdonald must be a witch. What do you think?

Written and directed by Sean Byrne, what begins as a seemingly innocent enough question soon becomes every guest's worst nightmare when Lola Stone (Robin McLeavy) won't take no for an answer after timidly inviting a guy at her school to the dance. The dance begins with everyone dressed for the occasion and all of the right decorations to set the tone of the party. Just as we're getting to know Brent Mitchell (Xavier Samuel) and his past trauma, we are thrown into a nightmarish celebration dictated by Lola. Where this film ends up will absolutely surprise you!

For Episode 59 we are excited to finally discuss CARRIE 1976, directed by Brian De Palma and inspired by the 1974 novel of the same title by Stephen King. We immediately meet shy and mistreated Carrie White (Sissy Spacek) when she is bullied by her classmates and most authority figures while experiencing puberty. Even worse, she has not been raised in a household of comfort nor science. When Carrie gets mad from constant badgering, she usually suppresses it until she realizes she wields a magnificent power and can begin to take control of her life. When one of the most popular boys in school asks her to Prom, for the first time she sees all of her dreams coming true. But as Murphy's Law follows suit, this dream prom night is halted into Carrie's personal hell.

For our second episode of the season we welcome you to Hill House. Loosely based on the 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, Mike Flanagan directed the television series parading a strong cast of two age groups that created a chilling and relatable ghost story.

In anticipation of the follow-up season, The Haunting of Bly Manor - to be released October 9th, 2020 - we really wanted to get this episode out to you before it launched. And we have had it on our calendars forever! It is so nice to be able to discuss it finally and we have soooo much to say about each and every episode. If you need something to binge, now is the time to digest The Haunting of Hill House one final time before something new wets our ghostly appetites.
