This week, Travis sat down with Edmonton-based activist, writer, and podcaster Katie Robertson—an old friend from grade school—to talk about her life as an activist, her perspective on politics, her podcast Outside the House, and the current state of things in Alberta.
We recorded this interview back on May 26th, a few days before news broke about the children found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School, so while we do talk about issues of so-called reconciliation and Canada’s treatment of Indigenous people, we did not have that background during the conversation.

CONTENT WARNING: Discussions of genocide, Residential Schools, colonial violence.
This week Ev, Mo, and Travis discussed the discovery of 215 children in a mass grave at Kamloops Indian Residential School in British Columbia and the politician and media reaction to the news. It’s a heavy one—so just a warning. Before we got into that, we kept it lighter by elucidating the Voice of the People—specifically snowbirds and their tragic separation from their property.

Travis is joined this week by the oft-mentioned, but never before heard from Emma Starr. They listened to the Voice of the People before giving an update on everyone’s favourite racist Essex town councilor Chris Vander Doelen. Finally, they continued the conversation about Israel’s continued genocide in Palestine and the media coverage here in Canada.
Apologies for the audio technical difficulties throughout.
Ev, Mo, and Travis Respect The Grift™, discuss some Rex Murphy verbiage, and dive into the newest terrorist attacks on the people of Palestine by Israeli settlers.

We're going to let the Derek Chauvin verdict breathe and re-group for next week. Okaayyyy byyyyeeeeeeeeeeeee
Gladys, Kit, Mohammad, and Travis chat about former Windsor Star columnist and current Town of Essex councilor Chris Vander Doelen and his recent controversy before delving into a deep cut of his from 2014. Then we transition to the ongoing Derek Chauvin trail in Minneapolis and yet another police killing of a black person in nearby Brooklyn Center, Minnesota last Sunday when Kim Potter shot and killed Daunte Wright.
If you have some extra cash and want to help the situation in Brooklyn Center, you can donate to a GoFundMe set up by Daunte Wright’s family, or a GoFundMe for community mutual aid in Brooklyn Center. You can also donate to The Bail Project, a revolving fund used to pay for bail and legal fees of freedom fighters and protesters standing against police violence across the U.S. and Canada.
