This conversation I had with Dr. Diane Forbes Berthoud was INCREDIBLE! I met her 5 years ago through RISE San Diego. She is an incredible wife, mother, community leader, and has so much wisdom to share through her story on the importance and challenges of higher education.

Dr. Diane Forbes Berthoud is the Assistant Vice Chancellor for  Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at the University of California, San  Diego, where her responsibilities include strategic planning, advancing  institutional effectiveness, serving as liaison to Human Resources, and  leading diversity-focused community engagement and campus-wide  initiatives.  As a member of the Vice Chancellor's leadership team, she  represents the Vice Chancellor on high-level task forces, advisory  groups, and system-wide work groups.

Dr. Forbes Berthoud has over 23 years of experience working in higher  education, nonprofit, and government. She brings a proven record of  success in organizational communication and development, strategic  planning, and assessment of EDI initiatives. She previously served as  Director of Practicum at Sixth College, where she spearheaded the  development, design, and assessment of multiple community-based  initiatives and courses.

Dr. Forbes Berthoud earned her BA in Communication Arts and a  certificate in Spanish Translation and Interpretation from  Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida and she received her master's  and doctoral degrees in Organizational Communication and Social  Psychology from Howard University in Washington, DC.

In this episode, I got to talk to one of my favorite comedians ... Mr. Jason Fredericks. 

He is the business manager and older brother of Kevin Fredericks @kevonstage. 

He also manages Jor el Quinn, Melissa Fredericks, Kevin Johnson Jr., Celeste Betton, Lexi Allen and many more. He is incredibly funny, and is an incredible business man, father, husband and leader. The conversation we had inspired me so much. He shares about the behind the scenes journey of the Play Makers, and what it took to get where they are today, and what it takes to sustain it as well. I sat down with my friend of 15 years, Professor Mike Love. Mike and I went to EOP Summer Bridge together at SDSU back in 2005.

Mike is a community college counselor, has his Master's degree and is a professor. He has always had a passion for education, and now he has been able to share that passion with the students that he helps. As we are in our BLACK PERSPECTIVE series, I know Mike's story will inspire you to be all that you an be and make a difference in the lives of young people.

In this episode I discuss the topics of racism, George Floyd and protesting. Race relations in the US are a hot topic and I just share a few thoughts on how we can keep this momentum going beyond this time frame and make some lasting mindset changes. 

Thanks for tuning in.  This topic is so important and needs to stay at the forefront of our conversations for generations to come so our children can live in a country with better race relations. It will take all of our efforts in order for that change to happen, and I hope this episode sheds a little light on this topic in the midst of all the other amazing voices on this topic as well.
