In this part we continue our super stimulating and passionate conversation on our generation's most current issues.
We throw some shade to the SOAS Marxist supporters who don't genuinely hold Marxist views but instead join the movement to simply be perceived as "cool" or "edgy." We talk about the challenges and culture of university political discussion which regrettably does sometimes have a tendency to ostracise or even in some extreme cases "cancel" students and staff who hold more traditional conservative values and views.
We speak about the legacy of the USSR and Communism in Eastern European countries, particularly Romania, and how the Church and politics are still intrinsically intertwined in many of these satellite states. We discuss the modern history and politics of Romania and how despite a strong sense of national identity there is an extremely low voting turnout and young Romanians are so disillusioned that many don't see their future in Romania.
We express why young people should become politically engaged or active and why Laura believes voting is a fundamental civic duty to the extent it should be made compulsory if appropriate.
Finally, we look at how media has completely changed the nature of modern day politics and the works of politicians as well as the dirty world of politics, business & money.
I had such an awesome time recording this conversation & listening back to it makes me so happy because I'm so pleased with it - I do hope you're pleased with it too :))
Thank you so much Laura for fitting me into your super busy schedule ( honestly guys, uni exams, internship, research analyst, diplomacy society journal society, captain of UCL basketball - what can't she do?!! #slayy ;)) Seriously though, this young woman is going far! Thank you so much for listening to this week's podcast, it really does mean so much.

btw: Romania is one of the least urbanised countries in the EU at 75% & has 46% of its population living in rural areas (WHO/Europe 2022)
In the 2019 Romanian Presidential election, the overall average voting turnout across all rounds was 49.02% (Forbes May 2019) - the EU's average is 50.95% (Forbes May 2019) which actually really surprises me #yourvotematterseurope #alwaysvote !!
