The OWLS have been absent from the airwaves for some time as life, work and commitments have kept them out of the recording studio.
Recharged after a long weekend in the beautiful state of Tasmania, Lisa shares her experiences of expectations of wondrous adventures with the realities of travel and “doing it on the cheap”.
Whilst Sue was envious of Lisa’s recent adventures and the difficulty of high expectations, she took the time to reminisce of when first dates go wrong.
Maybe you have an experienced a short vacation disaster you’d like to share with the OWLS so why don’t you get in touch with us on [email protected] we would love to hear from you. Why don’t you subscribe to the “This Is OWL Lives” podcast via I-Tunes or via joy.org.au/owls.

Lisa and Sue also discuss the pitfalls navigating waterparks and waterslides for the Older Wiser Lesbian and the best place at these venue to enjoy the sun without raising too much of a sweat.

How do you keep Lisa and Sue entertained and quite on a flight? Whilst locking them up in the toilet for the duration of the trip may be the best option, they have considered a less restrictive option to keep themselves amused.
Movies or TV shows, they both have their preferences whether it be Lisa’s obsession with science fiction or Sue’s love of action comedy. What would be your “go to” entertainment choice? Chick flicks, drama or documentaries or something more obscure?

The OWLS are embarking on a holiday together to celebrate Lisa’s milestone 50th. But in true OWLS form Lisa and Sue have some travel packing tips and tricks for other travellers. Sue has also bought along a “flowchart” to help navigate the pitfalls of packing.
They also discuss the pitfall of travelling with family and friends.
What suggestions do you have for our intrepid travellers? Are you an over packer or forget to pack crucial items?

Lisa and Sue often discuss their lives candidly and of course what goes hand in hand with those discussions is the lives of their ever suffering and patient partners, Raelene and Susan.
Raelene and Susan often become the topic of conversation and elaboration because let’s face it, a little bit of embellishment of a story just makes great radio.
They are the type of girlfriends that laugh along with us and aren’t afraid to laugh at themselves in the process.

Lisa and Sue consider themselves experts in the consumption of all things FOOD. But when they discuss the various food fads and diets they have indulged in over the years, the conversation takes a humorous turn. Do you remember the diets you have tried? Were they successful or just plain stupid?
The OWLS don’t have a degree on nutrition so if you want evidence backed by facts and figures, this isn’t the podcast for you.
Sue also takes the opportunity to put Lisa through a gruelling tasting plate of dried foodstuffs from the local jerky house.

Are you a rule maker or a rule breaker? Lisa and Sue ponder which side of the fence they fall on.
Interestingly, when we are inundated with rules, legislation and good old fashion expectations but I always have a slight compulsion to break them or at least question their validity. I put it down to the need to rebel occasionally and not just accept everything on face value.
Rules, rules, rules, there are thousands that we must abide by over the course of our lifetime and it starts when we are toddlers, through to our teenage years and then on to adulthood.
We break the rules because we can, because it satisfies the ego and breaking even the smallest, insignificant rule can be exciting. We don’t even think of the potential consequences of breaking these rules at the time.
Rule makers are also important and I quite comfortably fall in to this category also. I have a innate sense of what is right and am very particular in the way I like certain things done and I am not adverse to setting a few rules myself … oh the conundrum.
And of course Sue and I share our “rule breaking” stories in true OWLS fashion.

With every generation comes the development of a language based on what is going on in teen culture. Lisa and Sue are again at odds with the destruction of grammar, the shortening of words and the secret codes they just can’t comprehend.
What is all this newfangled slang, the text abbreviations and the joining of words to form new phrases. The OWLS show their concern for the millennials and teens and the inability to speak and write “properly”.
Some may even say that teenagers are far from destroying English but are in fact enriching the language … the OWLS say WTF!
Lisa and Sue try to educate each other by sharing some recent text experiences and try to decipher this foreign language.

Everyone has a song or songs that have had an impact on their lives.
Lisa and Sue are pondering a new segment, yet to be named, but potentially “Soundtrack Flashback”, “Backtrack Soundtrack”, “Soundtrack Six-Pack” or something similar.
Whilst fleshing out our ideas of course the OWLS took the opportunity to reminisce about some of the songs that have been pivotal in their lives. Songs that took them back to a particular defining moment, songs from their teenage years, coming out songs and some songs Lisa considered too daggy to share … sorry Sue, no John Denver this time!
There will be more to come from the OWLS in this space, with some special guests coming in to share their “Soundtracks”.
