'This is pure authoritarianism': The Online Harms Act threatens to usher in fascism in Canada
The Liberal Party’s Online Harms Act (Bill C-63) was tabled at the end of February, proposing to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act to qualify online “hate speech”
as discrimination. If passed, individuals would gain the ability to file anonymous complaints against other Canadians for engaging in speech they consider to be hateful on social media. If found guilty, individuals can be fined up to $50,000 or be penalized with life in prison for “hateful conduct.”
